Customer Reviews

Great fun but hard to cleanThis was a Christmas gift for my son who loves to make things and definitely loves candy. He was so excited to start making it. He is 11, and he was able to do most of it on his own. I just helped with melting of the chocolate. He had fun creating different versions of candy bars. He got pretty creative with them. The only drawback (and the reason I deducted one star) is it is a nightmare to clean. The squeeze bottle that the chocolate melts in is so hard to clean. The chocolate gets into the little areas and it makes it so hard to get it all out.4OkProduct is just silicone molds, bags, and chocolate holder to fill up molds. Its my fault not reading the product information but I thought there was other ingredients. The thing to fill up molds is hard to use with chocolate in it. My 8 year old couldn't squeeze it hard enough to fill mold. We end up just filling a bowl with melted chocolate. Also couldn't clean it very good because of the shape. The molds did work good. However are very large. Would have been better if shallower or smaller in my opinion.2Can t get that dang song outta me head!My daughter wanted to get this with her amazon gift certificate....but not before watching the annoying video a million times! While a little gimmicky I do think this is a great little set. I was thrown off a bit because I thought the candy wrappers were actual candy that was included in the kit. The wrappers are printed in a way that makes them look like candy, especially on the box.The directions ask you to melt the chocolate into the silicone piece in the microwave. We gladly do NOT have a microwave so I used a double boiler. I then made sure to temper the chocolate(bring the temp up, and then down) so that we didn t have to put it in the freezer to get that chocolate snap .The silicone piece that you put the chocolate in is a pain in the butt to clean...so I just used a ziplock bag instead, though my child used the silicone thing.Everything works as described and I loved that they included packaging for their chocolate bars. I with they would have included a bag for all the pieces however.4and 10 year old daughters all had fun with this Christmas morning My 5, 8, and 10 year old daughters all had fun with this Christmas morning. The silicone molds worked perfectly and the candy came out beautifully. :) It's a neat little novelty toy for your kiddo who likes to bake...or eat chocolate! ;) 5Her friends came over and they had a fun afternoon with itAbout what you'd expect. No chocolate included, but that makes sense because it might become outdated, or if it got frozen or something. We bought large candy bars and melted them. She was thrilled. A person could just buy molds at Michael's and use those, but she was thrilled because it was a "special" set for her. Her friends came over and they had a fun afternoon with it.4Christmas gift son wanted. The molds for the chocolate are HUGE. So huge it makes a large lump of chocolate that I cant even eat. I was thinking maybe itd make like small trial size chocolates. Wrong. It makes a very large LUMP of chocolate that you have to put in the fridge to harden. Then when its done its a large hard piece of chocolate too hard to eat. But its great for kids, they love making it. But eating it however wasnt great.5Simple concept, kids like it.My kids really like this kit. To be clear: You purchase chocolate (i.e. candy bars), melt them in the microwave and use the melted chocolate to make...more candy bars. The kit contains four different molds, as well as two inserts, one of which allows for fillings to be used inside the candy bar. The filling insert is cool because you can create a candy bar with, for example, caramel inside. Again, even though you're buying/melting candy bars in order to make candy bars, the kids really like it.4Perfect for Kids and Gifts There are some "make it yourself" products out there for kids that are simply ridiculous. And then there are some that are genius and you wonder why they were never created before. This Chocolate Bar Maker falls into the genius category! My 11 year old daughter and our 14 year old neighbor decided to make candy bars with what we had on hand, which was semi-sweet chocolate chips and a host of normal, every day "goods" that most people have in their homes. The chocolate chips melted easily in the special squeeze tube and before I knew it they were squeezing chocolate into the molds, tossing them into the fridge and waiting for them to set up.What I loved the most is the imagination that they used. They immediately started scouring the cabinets trying to find unique, yet tasty, things to put into the chocolate bars. They eventually wound up using some rice crispies, marshmallows, and some leftover caramel we had in the fridge. A few sprinkles later and they were chowing down on their candy bars. I wanted to take a photo of them to put on this review, but they ate them before I knew it!This is the perfect gift to give a child when you don't know what to get - simply add some delicious chocolate wrapped up with it and you'll have a gift that will definitely be enjoyed. Or, if you're hosting a birthday party, I could see a parent getting two or three of these kits and setting up a "chocolate bar making" station for the kids to enjoy!Keep in mind two things:1. The candy does melt. Because there's no parafin wax in the mixture, the minute you start eating it your hand will get messy - but who says you can't have fun getting a little messy with chocolate?2. Cleanup. Read the instructions on cleanup - they suggest that you put the squeezer into the freezer for 10 minutes and then squeeze it to crack the excess chocolate off before trying to wash it. We did not read this initially and the cleanup was horrible - but when we tried it again the correct way, it worked much better! 5So worth it!!We use enjoy life chocolate chips to make dairy-free chocolate bars and it is so much fun. This kit has been great. We've been using it for a couple years now. We make chocolates for Halloween, Christmas, etc. I highly recommend this kit! I don't really use the red squeeze bottle though, I find you end up wasting chocolate that way. We just use a double broiler to melt the chocolate and then spoon it into the molds.5Smells like rubberLove the idea of this. I used to make chocolate molds all the time and thought this would be perfect for my 10 year old daughter. The major issue I had was that the molds had a very strong rubber smell which transferred over to the chocolate! Literally, we couldn't even eat them. I ended up going to our local craft store, bought a few molds, lollipop sticks and chocolate melting discs and we were much better off! No smell and beautiful chocolate candies and lollies that tasted delicious!1Messy but still worth it.I bought this for a xmas present for two 6 year olds. I bought 2 sets. The good: this kept them entertained for hours. The silicone molds are excellent. The inserts are super cool. The little paper with the candy bar suggestions was interesting to read. The bad: - the "melt the chocolate in the pourer" thing didn't work well. Each time, the chocolage got too hot in the middle but not melted enough on the sides, resulting in an uneven melt and problems. I had to resort to melting all chocolate and filling the kid's pourers. - The pourer's lid often popped off, blurping melted chocolate all over the kid's hands. This was because the hexagon shape meant that the corners of the pourer got cool before the center, resulting in clogs. Once the spout clogged, the pressure of trying to squeeze out chocolate caused the lid to pop off and voila, chocolate all over hands.Other than that, this was awesome, but time consuming for the parent in terms of melting and cleanup. (omg the cleanup). Now, you do need to be aware of the following things: - you have to buy chocolate. Do not buy candy melts. I tried that first to save money and candy melts just don't melt the same way. They are thicker and the clogging was a problem. - molds: you are going to need more things for them to pour chocolate into or else you are going to have kids, with candy and melted chocolate in front of them and nothing to do except eat it. And they will eat it. - you need to buy candy/fillings/ect or you are going to have kids rummaging your kitchen looking for anything to add to their bars. We learned that chocolate syrup as a filling does NOT work. I suggest you buy some nutella, some caramels, a bag of m and m's, 3 different types of chocolate chips, and call it a day. They will eat the m and m's, make a melty mess, and be super proud of their candy bars. - You are going to have hyper kids. But you knew this. You are looking at a "candy bar kit" for children.4Go to a craft store instead I bought this as a gift for a child who specifically requested this product. I'm sure it works as intended, but you could easily go to craft store and buy all of the items for MUCH cheaper than this and they would definitely be better quality. I had no issue w/the seller or delivery; those were great. 2We think it's funI know some reviews haven't been great for the Moose Toys chocolate bar maker but my son loves it. He's 9 and we make all kinds of mixed up candy bars with it. It's just the molds and wrappers so you have to supply the candy (pretty sure it says that though) which wasn't a big deal for us because we like to choose are on mix-ins.5
