Customer Reviews

We used the machine less than 20 times and the ... We used the machine less than 20 times and the handle to the brew basket holder fell apart less than a year after purchase.. I called Mr. Coffee's warrant line. The lady was very indifferent; said they had no replacement basket holder, said they did not have a comparable replacement machine; gave me a case number and told me to call back in 4 -6 weeks!!! I told her I wanted to resolve the problem today and she said she couldn't. 1An acceptable espresso maker, given that it's only 40 bucks This machine gets 4 stars, given that it's also only $40. In other words, I didn't have high expectations, so it's a pleasant surprise that it works at all! The short review is that it makes a perfectly acceptable shot for a latte; but the quality isn't high enough to sip it as an espresso. And it does a fine job of steaming milk. The good: the machine itself is small, lightweight and easy to clean. Plus it was quite inexpensive, as espresso machines go! It's a pretty simple process to make a latte. I've never owned any other machine like this, so maybe others are just as simple. the steamer makes nice hot milk with decent foam (I actually use almond milk, so I can't say what it would do with regular milk) after 10 days of practicing, I've figured out how to get a shot that produces a darn tasty morning latte. The bad: it takes a LONG time to pull a shot (3 minutes?); and even when I'm only making a single 2-ounce shot, the machine slows down twice, tempting me to believe it's finished even though I have less than 2 oz of espresso in the carafe. But no, if I just wait patiently it does eventually produce a full 2 oz of espresso. the steamer arm is poorly designed. It only sticks out about an inch from the machine, so you can't move it around much in your cup of milk. Another reviewer had recommended tossing the black casing right from the outset, so I did that too. Never even tried using it. the shot produced by this machine doesn't have any crema at all the cleaning instructions were insufficient: the first 3 shots I pulled, after having cleaned the machine, left a bit of white powder on top of the coffee grounds.A few usage tips: The directions say to start by brewing your shot but then switch to steam in the middle, and then go back to finish pulling your shot after your milk is hot. That seems crazy to me so instead this is what I do: When I first turn the machine on, I start with it in the steam position. I do this after having poured my milk into a mug. While the machine is heating up, I measure out my coffee and attach the little basket to the machine. As soon as steam starts coming out, I began heating and frothing my milk. This takes about 60 seconds, for 6-8 ounces of cold milk. Once my milk is nice and hot I switch the knob to brew. As I mentioned above, the machine acts like it's finished before the full shot has been produced. Not only does any espresso stop dripping out into the carafe, but the machine belches out a fair amount of steam, which I always thought was a sign it was done. But no, if you just wait patiently the machine starts up again (it takes about 20 seconds, so it's REALLY tempting to give up) and eventually produces a full shot. 4Not what it used to be. My husband and I had this model 10 years ago. I was hoping that this one would be just as reliable and easy to use. Unfortunately, I was wrong. The body is light and the espresso arm did not snap into place strait, like it was supposed to. It's too tight a fit. Sorta strait was the best we could get it to... Also, the main knob was stiff to turn, making the transition to espresso to steam messy and they CHANGED THE STEAM WAND. Now, this plastic nozzle has holes at the top that forces the user to completely immerse the tip and NOT be able to make foam like a regular barista. It fries the milk and leaves it flat. You should be able to put the tip near the top and pull foam for a latte. With this model, if you do that, it sprays milk all over the place. And the steam wand gave way too much powerful steam and not in a consistent stream, but irregular blasts! It's dangerous, in my opinion and it makes poor quality, bad tasting espresso on top of that. If the steam wand wasn't so horrible, it might have salvaged a 3 star review, but this is so disappointing, I want to return it. I betcha it's made in China, now. It is. 1Poor quality, for little use only... I bought this machine to replace one that died, the price was good, but, like they used to say, you get what you paid for. The price is good but this machine is for low usage. Overall the machine works fine and easy to use, the design is compact and it will fit in anywhere in your kitchen. Like other reviews said, the pump goes out. I work from home most of the time and I like coffee (strong) and I use this machine twice a day, it lasted for about 8 months, then the pump just died, it started making less and less coffee until it just died. Again, if you ll be using this 1 or 2 times a week, it will probably last for 2 or 3 years, but, if you re going to use it more than that, consider buying a better one. 2Disgusting and Toxic-Tasting Absolute crap. Had this thing for two years. Washed it out several times, with and without vinegar, and it always tasted toxic, like tin. The steamer broke, it didn t come with the espresso press, and the entire thing felt like it was put together from cheap scraps. I put it in storage for a year and a half before deciding to give it another try. Pulled it out and tried to run water through it again to make sure it didn t add a terrible taste to the coffee, and it didn t even run water through it. Steam everywhere even without the steam setting being on. Decided to ditch it but had to dump out the water first and the picture you see is of what came out of it. Absolutely disgusting and I will not be purchasing anything from this brand again. 1Great For The Price This is my second time purchasing this unit as our old one recently died (started taking forever to brew likely due to pressure/steam escaping). Still, before its death it lasted over a year of daily use (sometimes multiple times a day), so our $30 got us roughly 400-500 cups of espresso without a problem. Is it going to brew gourmet "Starbucks" quality espresso? No. The machines that do that are $1,000+ and we don't care to spend that much. When deciding whether to buy this unit again or get one in the $100-200 range, I found those ones have the same issues this one does and don't seem to last nearly as long, so why bother spending more? Bottom line: if you want a decent and quick espresso fix and are ok buying a new unit every year or so, this is an economical choice. 4My First Espresso Maker This is a great little machine for an amateur. It's got a small footprint so it doesn't take up a ton of space in my galley kitchen, and it's shorter than my drip coffee maker, so it fits easily under the cupboard, even with the accessories stored on top of it.There is a bit of a learning curve in terms of steaming milk, but if you follow the included instructions, it's pretty simple. I was able to make a good cappuccino on the second try (I didn't steam the milk long enough on the first). One note: The instructions say to start steaming the milk once brewing has begun, but it works better if you wait until brewing is almost finished.Once you get the hang of it, it doesn't take any more time than brewing drip coffee. As my family knows, I'm a horrible cranky swamp monster until I've had my first cup of coffee, so time is of the essence in the morning! This machine is simple enough to work before I'm fully awake, and the result is worth it.Definitely worth the small investment, especially if you're a first-timer and aren't sure you want to make the $500+ investment in a more professional machine. 5Health Hazard This product is not safe to use! Operation knob broke in 3 days(they use silicon for knob check out my photos), but I've never drunk an espresso from this machine because small metal pieces were coming from the water boiler every time I started the machine. I thought this is temporary, but I run the machine at least 15 times, but mini pieces kept coming check out my photos. Low quality machine, I don't recommend to buy this. Don't risk your health. 1I love it a Latte! I suspect this product is keeping Mr. Coffee in business. You cannot expect a product at this price to perform well, yet this machine has not let me down.I have made a latte daily in my own house since 1998; usually two or three. A day. I have no shame.I have owned a variety of expensive machines, including pump machines. The volume at which they operate is ridiculous. Next door neighbors should not be able to HEAR you simply making coffee! The Mr.Coffee model shocked me when I gave it a try about five years ago. I could not believe how well it worked and at such a quiet volume. It makes a lovely latte and perfect foam.I am certain the machine was never designed for the use ...er ...abuse I put it through. After my two to three a day habit, the machine gives out in about 6 months. That's okay by me! For the price, it does not bother me to replace it.Also, be mindful that the first five or so drinks in the new machine may have a slight metallic/plastic taste. This is normal with this (and other) machines. It will go away. 5Do not buy Initially, I was really excited about this product and thought that I had finally found a good coffee machine for a decent price. I opened up the box, made my first brew, and it tasted great. The second time around, I decided to use the steamer. The steamer did not work and would not heat up the milk. I was a bit disappointed because I was expecting the steamer to work on a brand new product. I then used the coffee machine several additional times and the coffee started dripping out slower and slower. By the fifth time, the coffee would not brew at all. So now I cannot make any coffee and I cannot steam any milk after 5 attempts. Do not bother buying this product. It's not worth the headache. Returning and getting a better one. 1
