Customer Reviews

Buyer Beware Sometimes when I'm purchasing anything, I sorta look for Brand names that have a market history. That's why I selected this item. The price was right, a known brand, and I needed a pot to boil water... a 'win, win' situation or so I thought. From the beginning this pot gave off a smell, which I couldn't identify... whenever I boiled water in it. I thought it was maybe... because it was new. Around it's third/fourth use... the smell still persisted and intensified. And to my total astonishment and shock... the teapot top flew into the air, water shot up towards the ceiling. I have an electric coil stove... and sparks started shooting up from around the coils. After finally getting everything under control, we discovered a charred 1 inch hole in the bottom of the pot. Honestly, I would not recommend that anyone purchase this item. 1This kettle feels like it was pieced together from the metal of old ... You might be checking out this kettle right now thinking - wow, it's so cheap! who needs an expensive kettle anyway? it's just a kettle, right? how different could it really be? If so, trust me, you are not alone. But I am here to tell you: it is not worth it. This kettle feels like it was pieced together from the metal of old soup cans. What's that you say? An ill fitting lid that only pops in place if you put your body weight into it? A spout controller that can only be opened by placing your fingers near the burning hot spout? This kettle makes my life decidedly worse. It is a downgrade from my old "kettle" which was just a sauce pan with no lid and I feel like Mr. Coffee owes me money for the storage space it takes up in my kitchen. And if you should ever come to my house: NO, there's not a NASA launch happening in my kitchen -- that's just ol' soup cans roaring to life on my stove. 1Very Nice Kettle-Color is Vibrant I purchased this Mr. Coffee red kettle for a friend that has accents of red in her kitchen & it looks wonderful on her black top stove. I tested the whistle because that's very important for a 'whistling' kettle & I was Not disappointed. The door to the kitchen was closed because we were in the livingroom with a loud air conditioner & kids all watching TV, & guess what?, I heard the whistle! My friend & I are very happy with the Mr. Coffee tea kettle. 5It's well constructed, but I prefer another. I had a larger one of these from Mr. Coffee which was great. I always found I didn't need quite so much water at a time, so I would either leave water in or not heat as much in the first place. Not a big deal. When my previous kettle was destroyed by fire(by no fault of the kettle itself), I decided to get a smaller size. The first was a 2 quart Harpwell. I am reviewing the 1.5 Quart Carterton. Both made by Mr. Coffee. First the kettle handle gets hot during the heating process. So hot it can't be used bare handed. I figure the best way to prevent this is to have the handle straight up above the kettle during heating, but it does not prevent it. I could heat it over a lower flame, but I shouldn't have to. The other kettle handle stayed cooler. Also the mechanism to open the spout is on the actual spout. Putting your thumb or finger right where the steams going to come out. The other kettle's mechanism was built into the handle. Other than that it seems very well made, just not very well designed. Also I will say I have never owned a kettle before these two. So I didn't grow up with this type of thing in our house. I don't know if the gripes I have are to be expected with whistling kettles. I am just comparing the experience between my first kettle, and this smaller one. 3This kettle is 5 months old and it is already useless. The whistling spout melted and fell off this ... I would give this kettle 0 stars if that was an option. This kettle is 5 months old and it is already useless. The whistling spout melted and fell off this morning. Use of this kettle in my home is minimal as only my wife uses it to boil water for tea in the mornings. I have had many kettles in the past and all have last for years. But this one...5 months? Do not waste your money. 1I really like this product. The difference on why this boils so much faster is the disbursement of the water. I love this pot. I am a daily hot tea and instant coffee drinker. I have 15 minute breaks during my workday (I work from home) and do NOT have time for a tea kettle to take 15 minutes to begin boiling. The difference on why this boils so much faster is the disbursement of the water. The kettle has a wider base, which heats the H2O quicker. To avoid rust as long as possible, turn the kettle upside down in your drainboard or kitchen sink, with the lid off. It will dry out quicker and reduce the chance of rusting. The color is very nice. It is also a cool touch of decor in my kitchen. Very heavily used since the purchase of this product. 5Liked it. Ordering another one (Just don't put it into the dishwasher!) Mr. Coffee Morbern Stainless Steel Whistling Tea Kettle, 1.8-Quart, Red I bought the red one nearly 3 years ago and it served me well, but I made the mistake of putting it into the lower dishwasher rack last night. The color peeled off (user error). I am buying another one to replace it. The whistle part of the original purchase lost a screw and didn't work from the outset, but my old kettle spout part worked and I've been using that. The kettle is a nice size 1.8, qt for personal use for a few servings. The red is vibrant and it looks classy. I hope the new one is the same, but with a working whistler. I've never had interior rust or peeling problems, but I always let it dry on a mostly cooling burner with the lid off. I'll update if the new one has any problems! 4Finish does not last! I loved the red color! If you use your on the stove teapot a lot, then this is not the teapot for you! If you cook, then grease and stuff will get on it! When you wash it, the red comes off! Then you wind up with a silver teapot! If you don't wash it, it is greasy and nasty looking, and who wants that in the kitchen? Then, there is red paint all over your dishcloth, and you are wondering what the paint has in it. Nah, get ceramic or something, but not this one! My daughter in law has the same one, and hers did the same thing! Don't spend your money on this! Waste of money! 3Do Not Buy This - Paint Peeled in One Week! I love the look but after just a week a chunk of paint peeled off. I was very careful with it, realizing it might be easily scratched. But, a drop of water dried on the outside. This caused the paint to come off - honest, I didn't scrub or anything, it just came off! Also, my gas burners (not an old stove either) turned the red a dark color. I didn't even try to clean it given that a drop of water peeled the paint. Very pretty if you only want a teapot that lasts a week or is just for display. 1Good overal! Update Dec 27,2018:It has not rust. The handle is still strong and working. The whistle still works! I will buy more when this one gives out.Pros:Whistles when its readyHas a cutte shapeHas not rust yet (1 month in)Nice sturdy handleCons:hard to open at timesGet this for yourself you wont regret it :) 5
