Customer Reviews

Perfect for my patio. We installed this over our table in our patio cabana. We placed the panel on the roof and hung the light inside. It's not real heavy which is a good thing. I found that the light was a little harsh by itself so I unscrewed the little clear dome and put a little square of tissue paper inside to diffuse the light. I happened to have colored tissue paper and have used pastel pink, green, and blue at various times and it really creates a different mood and look with each color change. LED lights are cool so I'm not worried about starting a fire. On the light itself is a setting switch. You can set it so that you use the remote to turn the light on, (dim or bright) and off. Or you can set it to automatically come on with darkness and use the remote to switch between dim and bright. So far this light has worked beautifully and is just the thing for our patio. 5Lamp is bright, quality is so so.. Light didn't work with remote at unboxing, but after fiddling with the remote and battery a bit, it started to work.. Too bad you can't get both light brightness with lamp alone if remote fails. Quality is a bit cheap and I'm not too sure how long the solar panel support bracket will stand up to wind and sun UV rays over time. Also, wish they made the bulb protection lens on the lamp a bit better optically clear. The light it cast is distorted and loses true brightness from irregular marks in the lens. Without the lens you can notice a difference in brightness. Guess only time will tell how long it last both working and battery charging cycles.. They recommend battery replacement once a year with new rechargeables, and to get at them means dismantling the whole lamp. Seems a bit short in my opinion. Light is bright when used. The brighter setting is actually good enough to read with also. So, for that, I'm satisfied.. 3 stars just for the quality so far. I'll upgrade if it lasts over a year and a half.. Lol. 3Bright idea for your money I purchased one for my new Gazebo and the solar bracket is very easy to mount and fits various post sizes. Cable is long and easy to reach approx. up to 7 feet away from the actual light fixture. Remote works very well but needs to be pointed at the IR sensor if the light is in ON positon. Light is very bright and has two different brightness settings. Fixture has a nice look especially for the money and chain is easily adjustable to fit your hight needs. I was so happy with this light I purchased another for my grill cover. 5Good Light, Poor Solar Panel This light was a gift for my sister who has an open porch with no access to electricity. The light works well and lights up the area. It would be nice if the cable from the light to the solar panel was longer. Her only complaint is the solar panel. It is attached to a knob allowing it to swivel. The connection is poor, meaning the panel won't stay in position. She had to attach it so that it just lays flat. I read many reviews and questions about whether the remote works. It does work. The instructions are poor in regards to what setting the light switch should be on for using the remote. The remote works with the light in the ON position. The remote will turn the light on low, then high, then off. 4Buy it, it works! I have also purchased the High Lumen - 20 LED - Lithium Battery - MicroSolar 20 LED Solar Shed Light. Go read that review also. The same things I said about that light, applies to this light, but for inside, home use, I like this one better. Why? (You did ask, didn't you? Of course you did.) Because it looks nicer hanging from your ceiling, has a glass enclosure, operates via an infra red controller, and has 3 modes and two lighting levels.Let me be very clear about this... THERE IS A MODE YOU SET WITH THE LITTLE SLIDER SWITCH INSIDE THE GLASS ENCLOSURE THAT ALLOWS THE LIGHT TO BE OPERATED WITH THE REMOTE. YES! YOU CAN TURN THE LIGHT ON AND OFF WITH THE REMOTE!!!!Someone reviewed this light and said the remote does not turn the light ON and Off. They are WRONG!!!When the light is set, with the little slider switch inside the glass enclosure, to the 3rd setting, the remote will turn the light on to LOW, HIGH, and then OFF, in that sequence. Got it? Low, high, then off!3 of these light my 22 x 22 family room as well as a 75 watt lamp. Other than the white light having a slight bluish tint, they are great.Now... if you expect to light up a 200 x 150 foot barn, with a 20 foot roof, you are going to need a few more of these than just 3.But 3 or 4 of these in each room and you could actually live off the grid, for lighting, at least. 5This fixture has nice features but many problems! This is a very nice light for a shed. There are three settings- On (on all the time), auto (dusk to dawn), and Off. The remote control is supposed to turn it on and off and click through two light level settings. I thought at first my remote didn't work because the directions said the "On" position means the light is on all the time. I thought then that it should turn the light on from the "Off" position but it didn't. The directions don't say how the remote is used to turn the light on and off. I determined that the light worked in the "ON" position and in the Auto position (dusk to dawn). Everything seemed to be in order except the remote. I phoned Nature Power to get a replacement. The gal was very nice and agreed that the remote appeared to be defective and has shipped a replacement remote. But then I realized I hadn't actually tried using the remote in the "On" position. It does work as a switch in that position and to toggle through two brightness settings. So it looks like I'll end up with two remotes. I've just written to see if I can pay for the second one since the original remote actually did work. Other people have reported problems with the remote so I wonder if they had the same difficulty. The directions really leave something to be desired. The video demo of the light on the website shows the remote turning the light on and off but also doesn't give details. Now I am completely satisfied though I strongly suggested to the company that they improve the directions. The light is bright enough for the shed and the company has good customer service- you can't go wrong. The cord connecting the panel outside to the light inside is ample- 10-12 feet- I'm not sure the product info tells that but that could be important to you, depending on your shed and outdoor panel placement.Update on 10/20/13. Shortly after resolving the remote control issue and writing the review above, the light quit working! I had to check the batteries as the probable cause. If you need to change the batteries, be sure to remove the fixture from the ceiling first. I didn't on my first attempt and some of the tiny (I should say miniature) little screws fell and were lost until I gave up and took it down from the ceiling. But I had to buy more screws to put it back together. Another tiny screw holds a bar over the battery. An extremely thin strip of plastic that holds the battery case to the fixture broke. I checked the batteries on my battery charger and found two of the three batteries to be dead after one day of use. So I replaced them with freshly charged 1.5 volt rechargeable batteries but it still wouldn't work. Ricardo at Nature Power said to try regular alkaline batteries and it worked with them. He said there was no reason it shouldn't work with the rechargeables, so I tried again and this time they did- possibly they hadn't been seated properly the first time. However, now it only worked in the "ON" position. Neither the auto feature or remote control would work. Opened it up again and found a yellow wire disconnected. All that opening and closing up the fixture was too much for the fragile wiring. I told Ricardo that I was willing to try to solder it back down if he could instruct me or send a diagram but he would not. And at this time he said that Nature Power would not replace the fixture, that the fragile wiring was not a warranty issue. By this time, it was past the time period for returns to Amazon. I phoned Amazon anyway to ask what to do when the manufacturer would not honor the warranty and they agreed to replace it. Then Ricardo got back in touch to say that they decided to take a return after all, but the Amazon return was already in the works. What a time I've had! Today I will send the broken lamp back to Amazon and Amazon is shipping another.I really do like this hanging shed lamp. It is attractive and I like the remote control feature. I have the remote hanging on a nail just inside the door- very convenient. I have faith that I have worked through all the problems and it will be smooth sailing from now on.I sent a list of suggestions to Nature Power to improve this product:1) The directions that came with the fixture are really terrible. They don't even say that the switch should be in the "ON" position in order for the remote control to work. That wasn't intuitive to me. Since I had to guess, I guessed the remote would turn the light ON from the OFF position. But that was wrong. There was a 50-50 chance of being right, but the customer shouldn't have to guess how the fixture is supposed to operate.2) The directions incorrectly say that the switch positions are Off, One and Two. Not so! The switch positions are Off, Auto, and On.3) The directions should say that it is necessary to remove the fixture from the ceiling because the tiny screws fall out and are lost if you don't (I had to go to the hardware store and buy new screws). Better yet would be to use bigger screws that are easier to handle and find if they drop.4) The plastic bar over the batteries is annoying- it would be better if it snapped in place rather than screwed down with another tiny screw.5) There was a thin, very flimsy plastic strip that is supposed to retain the battery compartment and circuit board to the fixture but that broke the first time I opened the case- it needs to be made stronger.6) The wiring is exposed and vulnerable and not robust and subject to damage when changing the batteries. It needs to be covered and protected. With these improvements, this will be a real winner. A friend suggested that there is something that can be sprayed over wiring to protect it. I am visiting an electronics shop today and will ask about that for the new unit that should be coming soon. 4Perfect if you don't have power somewhere We use 2 of these in our remote barn (until power gets out there) and they work flawlessly. I used an app to index the panels correctly and have yet to be disappointed for a charge (left them on for hours and still bright). They are a bit short on the cables so we were forced to keep them higher than we'd like. Still at 8' installed height the visibility circle is a solid 20'. Enough to see what you are doing, but not very strong for "task" lighting or to read a book.Highly recommend in a garden shed or other remote location (hunting shack perhaps?). 5Works but could use improvements PROS: Easy installation. Decent length of wire (15') between light and solar panel. Better light than I expected (photos show it on high vs. low setting).CONS: Plastic, not metal as described. Remote had a tab to remove to allow for use, which broke off inside when I pulled. Had to find the world's smallest Phillips head screwdriver to open it up and remove the rest of the tab. Remote dims/brightens but does not turn the light on and off. Need to unscrew bulb cover to access on/off switch and my light it too high to reach so we can't turn it off without a ladder.BOTTOM LINE: It was the only non-motion activated solar light I could find with the panel separate from the light and under $100 so it will do. 3Equivalent to A Night Light This was purchased to provide light in a chicken coop located near our house. After charging in full sunlight for two days this light produces the equivalent of what a small nightlight might produce. It is made of cheap flimsy plastic and did not come with a remote as advertised. It is lightweight and easy to hang but I have no confidence that this hanging nightlight will last more than a few months. 1Great price of a good light 1st light defective product rated one-star and returned - Amazon credited. Received second yesterday, followed other customer comments including basic product instructions. Light operates as suggested by seller but would not have known/understood operations without other customer comments. Light mounted, solar panel charged, light with remote operating can turn on and off including high and low led lights - do not have to manually turn light on/off with switch. Suggest detailed operating instructions be provided with light to eliminate the frustrations of buyers - current instructions detail mounting light and general description of remote operations...which leaves the frustrating burden of operating light to the user/buyer. Great price of a good light. 5
