Customer Reviews

Great filters, just around half the cost of main-brand filters We bought Filtrete filters from Costco a few weeks ago since they were 'on sale' (meaning they were 10 dollars per filter). I had remembered that I had bought the Nordic Pure filters before and wanted to see how they compared to those Filtrere ones. Once I started looking into the performance and measurements of filters, I decided to return the ones I had gotten at Costco and but these Nordic Pure ones, and here is why:1. Filtrete being the main filter brand in the U.S., they put tons of money into marketing their products as 'allergy proof', 'healthy', etc. This is all great, but from a regulation perspective, the only real measurement to look at is the MERV2. These Nordic Pure filters are MERV 12 (which is very high) and compare well to the highest end filters from Filtrete at Costco (I can't remember if those were MERV 12 or 13)3. These Nordic Pure filters work great and are almost half the cost of the Filtrete ones for the same qualityThe only difference is the packaging. These come directly from the manufacturer (based on what I saw), so they're not packaged like the Filtrete ones, which I really don't care about as my main reason for buying these is performance and not marketing. 5Excellent filter and value + These filters have a metal pleat guides to keep the shape while in use+ The filters for 16x20 have more pleats (22) than big box filters (17). More pleats is less resistance and more filtration.+ You cannot beat the value for quality.+ Shipping was very fast. Less than 24 hours in a non-1-day area. The question now becomes, is this filter going to fit? They are a bit smaller (1/4 ) than normal big box filters but they still fit in my plenum. I ve taken plenty of pictures to show the differences and the opening to the exchanger is still covered. However, it s important to note that you don t want a 100% sealed system as that caused too much resistance and would shorten the life of the blower. The filter s #1 job is to protect the blower and exchange from damage. With a higher MERV filter you re also getting benefits for air quality but when building these systems HVAC installers are only concerned with debris in the ventilation. Also, to those complaining about the lack of print on the filters detailing the MERV rating that s unfounded as the package (box) they come in says what MERV rating and size they are. Think about this, what s from stopping the manufacturer from stamping a higher rating on the filter to begin with? This is an unfounded fear in my opinion. The box is clearly marked. Write the rating on yourself if you use different ratings in different seasons. One other mention, these do not reduce airflow for my system. If anything it s a bit better than the big box FRP 7 filter it replaced.I just bought a years worth of excellent quality filters that normally run $20/ea for $33 for 6. That s unbeatable and a no brainer frankly. 5good box o' filters! This filter is great! I stick it in the slot, and a few months later, voila!, it's dirty. So it must be working, or they've figured out a way to have it turn dark over time, but that seems harder. The price is great, and I bought a box of six because I guess I'm supposed to replace the filter every 1-6 months, not every other year. I can't tell you that it filters more than others, as I don't have a dust measurement device, but it certainly seems to work to spec. I'm going to try to replace them every two months and convince myself that I'm wise doing so. I don't have animals and don't smoke. I'm very allergic in the spring and late summer, but I have a HEPA air filter I use at those times. Beyond that, there seems to be a "you'll know it if you need to replace it' approach to filters, but since I went two years, I think it's safe to say that I won't know. You may, however. The filters in the box o' filters do not come individually wrapped. I thought about this and realized that such wrapping isn't necessary. The goal isn't to protect these things from dust; if they can't absorb a little dust and still work, they're probably not very good. They haven't gotten dusty sitting in the box, anyway. 5Great, inexpensive filters - don't buy into the hype of premium allergen filters I am allergic to pretty much every allergen in the book, so for years I purchased the higher MERV/MPR rated filters that purported to be better for allergy sufferers like myself. After moving into a new construction house two years ago and having a chance to chat with the HVAC installation crew, I was convinced to switch over to this much less expensive Nordic Pure MERV 8 filter. While the higher rated filters initially do a better job at filtering out all of the household allergens, those filters quickly clog up and becomes less efficient at providing airflow to your house, driving up energy costs and potentially overloading/harming your HVAC system. A little research on the web confirmed what those HVAC guys told me. I've been using these filters in my house for the past two years and my allergies are no different than what they were using the more expensive premium allergy filters. To be safe, I do change them out monthly, whereas some of the literature online indicates you can go a little longer between changes; it really depends on how often your system runs. These filters fit my 16x25x1 furnace housing fine. The filters do come in a branded Nordic Pure box, but the filters themselves look fairly generic. I've never had any problems with them. Remember to ensure that the airflow arrow is pointing in the right direction when you install the filter, change them out on a regular basis, and you should be good to go. Highly recommended. As a side note, I've noticed that these filters sometimes go up on the Amazon marketplace at a little discount, but it's a a gamble buying those as I've noticed that the attention to detail regarding MERV rating was lacking. The one time I bought some off the marketplace, I received the right size filters, but not the correct MERV. 5Nice Filters that Do NOT Impede Airflow I had been using some pleated filters with a bit higher MERV rating and decided to drop down a number or two to see if I could get better airflow. These fit my openings well, and we do seem to be getting better airflow. I actually think that we catch more dust because there is more air going through the filters, plus my furnace is not struggling so much.I've been using them for a couple months and just changed them for the first time. Our old ones would be sort of warped from the airflow and these were not, so it lets me know that they are probably a better fit for our furnace. The only thing I did not like about these was the blue color. I prefer white, because I want to see how dirty they are when I take them out. It's a bit harder to judge how dirty they are since they are blue to begin with. Thanks for reading my reviewBecky Brooks 5AWESOME FILTERS -- DON'T THINK, JUST BUY -- SERIOUSLY AWESOME FILTERS -- COMPLETELY WORTH YOUR PURCHASE!!! I always felt like I had hayfever in our home but after switching to these filters I have a MUCH better time sleeping at night. I used to wake up almost every morning feeling as if I had a cold (minus the headache) but I'm being 100% honest that after running these new filters for a few days really cleaned up the air in the house. Will not buy any filter but these going forward. Very happy with them. One thing to note is that because they filter so much better than the common furnace filters, they clog, so make sure at least for the first couple of times after you use these, you switch them out more frequently. Trust me when I say you're going to get sick to your stomach the first time you change them. You'll see all the crap they caught which you've been breathing all the time.NOTE: that is the picture of my second filter. The first one was HOLY !@#$ DISGUSTING, and that was only after a couple of weeks. This one has been over a month so far. It's hard to see in the picture but most of the stuff it's catching now is the tiny particles, since most of the big stuff (that our old store-bought filters NEVER caught) was caught. 5Good Air Flow This is my second order of these filters. The first time I just ordered the 6 pack to make sure I liked them. I wish they were white so you could better see the dirt on them, but other than that these are great.I was using MERV 8 filters and felt like they were straining my furnace blower. It seemed all I could find under MERV 8 were the standard floss type filters that really do not get much except for large dust particles. These still have the accordion pleats but with just a little better airflow. I find that my furnace and A/C work better with these filters and yet they still get out a significant amount of dust from the air. Even with the lower MERV rating I feel like we have less dust because with the greater airflow I am getting more air being pulled through the system. We change ours every 2 months to keep them performing well. Thanks for reading my reviewBecky Brooks 5These filters look to be of great build quality and certainly would seem to last 3 ... These filters look to be of great build quality and certainly would seem to last 3 solid months of heavy use. I did notice that the box frames are a little bit smaller than the previous ones I had installed (blue fiberglass). This isn't a big deal, but something to note if you have your vents on the ceiling since when the HVAC turns on/off you can hear the filter rise to the top and fall to the bottom. There are usually some tabs inside the return frames you can pop out a bit to fix this if you really want to, but i don't find it that irritating since the returns aren't in any bedrooms. One other thing to note is that these are MERV8, which restricts more airflow then filters of lesser MERV values. I replaced some MERV4 filters with these MERV8 and I noticed that the air isn't blowing as much out of the vents as before. Not a deal breaker, but just something to note (your furnace is also working harder to suck in air now, so the chance of failing parts may also be increased).Overall though I think these are great filters and I certainly feel comfortable enough to purchase/use them again. 5Great filters These are great filters, a much better value than 3M. They worked very well for me.Let me, however, take a moment to respond to a few criticisms.First, people complain that they come unmarked, and so they claim they are fakes. Thing is, all cases of Nordic Pure filters are unmarked. They use the same frame for all their various products in that size, so they don't mark them.Second: size. It's called tolerances. All filters are a tad smaller than their nominal size to make sure it fits within the tolerances the duct installers left. Perhaps they are a small fraction of an inch smaller than 3M equivalents. For most, that won't matter. The fact is, they display the actual sizes under the details.Third, allergan reduction. If you are buying a furnace filter to reduce allergan, you are buying the wrong product. While it's a nice side effect, furnace filters are designed with one purpose: keeping dirt out of the heat exchanger. That's all. If you are worried about allergies, get a standalone HEPA filter. Otherwise, the size of particle trapped is what is important, not subjective, placebo-influenced statements like that someone seemed to have more allergies with this filter. 5A highly efficient home HVAC filter that pulled a lot of grunge from my system ... The MERV factor was what I was looking for in this particular filter. I d tried out another brand, with a MERV factor of 13, but am equally satisfied with the Nordic Pure brand. I d read a lot of reviews on a variety of filters and these appeared to be reliable and effective. I decided to try them out to see for myself just how good they were. MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, something that tells me exactly how efficient a filter is. We d been using some inexpensive ones much lower MERV factor (some as low as 6), but because of the dust in this house I wanted something even more efficient. The Nordic Pure are MERV 12, one number short of the highest MERV that a household would use. Anything higher usually is used in an industrial or hospital setting. I want to eliminate as many allergens as I can from our duct system. Dirt, pollen, allergens, dust, and on and on. The usual recommend on replacing a filter is two or three months, but the Nordic Pure, as did the other ones I used, are pulling out so much from my furnace system, I decided I ll change them out once a month. It s a small price to pay for keeping a healthy household.I was surprised (or maybe I wasn t) at just how much both brands of filters I used pulled out in a single month. I simply checked out the size of the filters we were already using (a must) and took a chance on ordering. Needless to say, I m really pleased with the quality and the function of the Nordic filters. At around six dollars a month, if I so choose to swap them out, it s a bargain. I do have a lot of allergies, but since I ve been using a filter with a higher MERV factor, I haven t had as many issues. 5
