    I am very happy with my purchaseI am very happy with my purchase. The lamp itself has a simple elegance. It will go in almost any type of decor you have. The lampshade itself does not look plastic, as you walk through the room. You are the only one who will know that.....if it bothers you, go spend 100.00 more and get the lamp of your dreams. For me, it's all about eye appeal, quality and price. I've have this lamp for 2 months now, can't speak to it's longevity. It gives off good light. I have overhead lighting in my kitchen, which I find is not enough. I like things bright. This meets my need for more light nicely. The dimmer worked well with standard 3 way bulbs. Then I tried to save money and got the CFL bulbs and put them in to save money long term, since I do use these a fair amount. The CFL bulbs don't dim, but I prefer to use this lamp on it's bright mode, so I am happy. Just thought you might like to know, the 3-way feature does work well with the 3-way bulbs. You really can't go wrong , at this price, for this lamp.**UPDATE: I have had this lamp for over a year now, and still love it. I use it nearly every day, and everything is working perfectly. I've had it for 14 months and the shade is looking great, and still does not look like plastic at a glance. It looks like glass. I uploaded a pic this time, taken at night (of course) so you can see the light output. 5Buying this was not a good decisionIt's with great sadness that I must give this lamp 1 star. Couple of good things about it are its nice height and light output, really lights up that dark corner. BUT. The 3-way switch has not worked out of the box, so only the center (100 watt) setting works. The 3 settings was a big reason for me buying this particular lamp. Also, the plastic shade worries me, because the bulb puts out a LOT of heat, so I continually worry about the shade melting/catching fire. If the 3-way switch worked, I'd very likely search for a glass shade for this lamp. As it is, I only use it while I'm in the room. Thought that it might have been the wrong product, but the product #JP1-1131A was the same. Will just write it off to marketing.Likes:+ Measures about 71 inches tall; good for corner lighting in a small or medium sized room+ Uses 12/19/28-Watt CFL 3-way E26 bulbs; equivalent to 30/70/100-Watt 3-way incandescent light bulbs+ Can use 12/23/29-Watt CFL 3-way E26 bulbs; replacement for 50/100/150-Watt 3-way incandescent bulbs+ Steel construction with a brushed steel finish and weighted base; sturdy+ Reasonably priced lamp; good value for the moneyDislikes:- Plastic shade is flimsy; may have to be replaced with glassOverall Impressions:This lamp arrived in a sturdy package, but was marked as Concord Torchiere Lamp when taken out of the Amazon shipping carton. The components were well packaged in molded styrofoam, protecting the lamp parts from shipping damage. The product description had been quite vague, listing the color and finish as "Brushed Steel" and the material as being "Plastic." Tested the metal parts with a magnet, and they are made of steel. The instruction sheet was step-by-step and easy to follow, with written instructions and diagrams, and everything went together smoothly within five minutes. No bulb was included, but there was a recommendation for one E26 150-Watt 3-way bulb.The product description had been weak, but I ordered a Westinghouse Lighting 3796300 3-Way Daylight Compact Fluorescent Twist Light Bulb for a number of reasons. This 3-way CFL bulb is rated at 12/19/28-Watts, the equivalent of a 30/70/100-Watt 3-way incandescent bulb with a 'standard' E26 screw-in base. But I wanted this one because it offered a color temperature of 6500 Kelvin, the approximate equivalent of overcast daylight, as this lamp is to be used in a work area. You could also use the more powerful GE 47448 12/23/29-Watt CFL (50/100/150-Watt equivalent) Energy Smart Spiral 3-Way Light Bulb, but be aware that this is a "warm" bulb that is rated by GE at a color temperature of 2700 Kelvin, which is quite similar to a regular incandescent lamp.The quality of light is excellent, and the rotary 3-way switch works properly; just remember to turn it in a clockwise direction, or it will unscrew and fall out. My only issue is with the lampshade, which is made from a somewhat flimsy white plastic. If you have kids, then this might be a good safety feature, but personally I would have preferred a better quality glass shade.Summary:Had originally looked at the Normande Lighting JS1-161 71-1/4-Inch 150-Watt Incandescent Torchiere Floor Lamp, but because the product description was so vague about the materials, I passed on it and chose this one instead. Apart from the lampshade, this is a well-constructed and attractive floor lamp, and the lighting quality is quite good. Just follow the assembly directions, then pick the right 3-way bulb with a standard E26 screw-in base to fit your needs, and you'll be good to go.8/16/2012 4Easy to assemble - well designed lampI purchased this floor lamp to use in my master bedroom for reading and study purposes. At the time of this review, I've only had it a couple of days; however, I'm very pleased with the way it looks and the amount of light it provides using a 3-way 150 watt bulb, which is the recommended bulb. You must purchase this bulb separately - it does NOT come with a light bulb.I'm a senior woman living alone, and I easily assembled this lamp within 15 minutes without rushing. It comes with assembly instructions on a single piece of paper, which I only glanced over, primarily to see if the black bushings were needed in the final assembly process...they aren't. You basically start with the base and work your way up to the top of the lamp. The four, metal pole pieces are loosely in the correct order after removal from the Styrofoam packing because the electrical cord passes through them from the topmost bulb receptacle down to the heavy base. After removing and discarding all the black, plastic bushings, you start with the base and screw the first pole segment into it, then pull the electrical cord through the now-attached pole and base to take up the slack before screwing in the second pole segment. Continue in this manner until all pieces are fully assembled. I found the instructions to be helpful and thorough enough to easily assemble this floor lamp.The lamp parts were well packaged for shipping and kept the metal parts from incurring any scratches or other damage during the shipping process, even if they throw the box around (and they often do - I used to work for three of the top carriers and saw this happen many times).As for the longevity of the light switch at the top of the lamp, I can't really speak to that at this time. Having read a review that said it failed after a couple of months' use, I've opted to plug it into a wall socket that allows me to switch off the lamp using the wall switch in my bedroom. This should help with wear and tear on the lamp switch itself. I've included a photo of the lamp switch, which has three, hard-stop positions to adjust the brightness level of the 3-way bulb. If you want a smooth turning, gradual brightness adjustment (aka dimmer switch), then this lamp isn't for you.All in all, I'm very pleased with this floor lamp and would recommend it to my budget-minded friends and family. I purchased this lamp and did NOT receive it in exchange for my review. 5Great Looks, Dim PerformanceI love the way these lights look, and initially purchased 3 in November and then 3 more in March. All was well, until just recently 3 of them started giving me problems. 2 were from the 1st order and one was from the last order.The switch that you use to turn the light on and off and to make the light brighter just spins freely on one. Luckily the light was on the second brightness setting, so I can unplug the light when I want it off, but that is obviously a hassle.The other two lights have lost their ability to go up to different brightnesses. I can turn them on and off, but one turn turns them on, then nothing for 2 clicks, and then the 3rd click turns them off. This is frustrating as well, and with two lights being 4 months old and one a month old, this is something that should not be occurring this early in their lives. They only get turned on once to twice a day, so it is not like it was from overuse.Wish I could give a great recommendation, because they look very nice, and everyone mistakes the plastic shade for glass, but the apparent lack of quality over such a short term and light use has me sadly giving this product 2 stars. 2This one really surprised me, in a good wayThis floor lamp really surprised me. I've owned a few over the years and never felt the need to get all spendy with them, so I tend to purchase cheaper varieties. That said, this lamp is built like a tank and it looks pretty spiffy too. I purchased it to be the main light in our bedroom, positioned it in the corner behind the nightstand, and put in a high power LED light.My only complaint, and it's not really a complaint, is that the lamp shade is just a wee bit too short for my liking, another half inch or so would be perfect. If you're bulbs are longish, they may stick out of the top a tiny bit. It's not a deal breaker at all, just something to consider. 5Useless. The picture included was taken at a low ...The shade on this light is too low so the bulb pops out above it, blinding anyone who looks in the lights direction. Useless. Both bedrooms in the apartment I just moved into have zero lighting, just a bunch of wall outlets and bare ceilings/walls. This thing fills the room with light.I do agree with what the other commenters said regarding the "cheap" base (it's a big lump of some sort of low grade metal covered in a plastic shell) and I suppose the sconce is a little flimsy looking but... It doesn't bother me at all, and I... question how having sort of a chintzy/cheap base would affect day-to-day use of the lamp for anybody, it's perfectly stable. The sconce has held up to a 100w "heat bulb" that I swapped out of a fixture in my bathroom, has not deformed at all.I did also shorten the lamp, out of the box, four sections of pipe thread together. I had to snip and rejoin the wiring (do this at your own risk, do your research.) After snipping the wire, I removed one of these pipe sections, which shortened the lamp just right to sit on top of my computer desk. Really puts out a lot of light, and, while it is semi-disposable/"throwaway-cheap" I see no reason not to try to pack it up and take it to my next apartment/home. 5Run, dont walk away from this lamp!The joints on this won't completely join. At the base and at the top it starts growing on perfect and then the last few turns it just stops! I've backed it off at a WD-40 won't completely turn. There's also one in the middle the does the same thing the only joint that does screw all the way down is very loose and wants to unscrew! I guess this is why it makes the Tower of Pisa look straight! Also you know when you get your dog neutered, and they give you that collar? Think about the quality of that collar and its similarities to the shade! They're about the same quality. I don't mind a plastic shade, actually I think that's ingenious. But it has to be a decent quality. The Styrofoam in the Box was such a bad quality it was crumbly and it is stuck to my sofa all over my sofa and statically stuck inside of this shade too! I don't know how I'm going to get it off my leather sofa. I have some Static Guard for your clothing, or I may try to wipe it with a dryer sheet. I plugged it in and tried to turn it off and the stem hit the wood floor and began to roll! Once I found it a realized it was my fault, sort of! I turned it to the left, instead of the right. When I turn it to the left it fell out. Once I turned it to the ride it turned off and I tried to turn it again it did nothing. It came to a dead stop. I kept trying and it finally turned on and turned it again it got brighter turn it again it got brighter turned it again and turned off but, I don't like the feel of that stem. I will include some pictures so you'll understand what I mean. This lamp isn't worth half the price. I would not pay $20 for it. I wouldn't pay $5 for it. I would not have it in my home. It is too crooked. I don't want a lamp that won't stand vertical! That is all I'm asking for! A nice bright lamp of decent quality that will stand vertical. Is that too much to ask from a $40 lamp? Return here we come! 1Much nicer than expected at this priceThis is a VERY nice lamp, especially considering the price. The stand and the poles are nicely machined, brilliant silver metal. The poles screw together easily and fit perfectly. Both the cord and switch appear to be of high quality and the switch clicks solidly. The only chintzy part is the plastic sconce, but it is tolerable and you can probably find a beautiful replacement at any antique shop. My use for this lamp is unusual. My wife's sewing room has an ordinary globe fixture that's not bright enough to illuminate her finer work. The room has a white ceiling, so I decided to try this torch lamp, but with a very high-powered bulb, which is the StonePoint GGL-50 4400 Lumen floodlight. Despite its 4400 lumens (equivalent of a 275 watt incandescent bulb), it draws only 55 watts, making it possible for her to use it alongside a steam iron in a room with a 15 amp circuit. The bulb comes with its own built-in shroud that fits inside the floor lamp's sconce. The two together are an amazing solution to her lighting problems. Sometimes I just go in there and turn the light on because I can't believe how good it is. 5
