Customer Reviews

Doesn t close, but with workarounds does what you need it to at an inexpensive price.A tea box needs to do 3 things: hold tea, open, and close. This holds tea, and the lid opens so that you can get to the tea when you need it. However, if you use the box in the way most people would, the lid does not close. The frame around the glass is so wide that it infringes on the openings meant for the tea and doesn t leave enough depth for the height of the tea bags. The lid ends up resting on top of the tea bags instead of closing completely. The workaround means you can only completely fill 2 of the 8 sections, and for the 4 on the ends (2 each on the right and left-hand sides), you not only have to leave the section partially empty, but also turn the tea bags 90 degrees from the way you d normally store them, which is annoying. Photos show what I mean. If this were a more expensive item, I would have rated it one or two stars because of this problem, but because it s so inexpensive I was more forgiving. Some people might not mind the quirky way of using it if it means saving some decent cash over pricier options, but if quality is vitally important to you, this isn t your tea box. I probably won t bother to replace it until it breaks or I move, but if I were making the purchase over again I d get something else. 3ANNOYEDThis box is made really well. It would be perfect in every way, BUT it won't actually close if you have any tea bags standing up. I drink a lot of tea, and I bought this for the purpose of organizing it. I wanted a tea organizer that took away the hassle of sorting through all of my different boxes. The only way to close this box is if you have the bags laying down, which defeats the purpose of buying this box unless you have exactly 8 different types of tea.If this box was just a tiny bit taller it would be perfect. I'm probably going to send it back. :( 1CHEMICAL ORDOR, do not purchase this box.I was really excited about this Oceanstar Bamboo Tea Box. The size of the storage compartments fit 12-14 teabags perfectly. However, the box smells awful!!! I let it air out for a couple of days before putting my tea in it. After 3 days, I got impatient and loaded it with my teas - It made my tea smell like toxic chemicals. I have had this tea box for several weeks now and the chemical odor is still very present. I am very disappointed in this product and question the safety of materials used in its construction. Food ware is not supposed to smell like this. There is a sticker on the base of the box next to the branded "Oceanstar - designed in the USA, made in China". The sticker reads, "CARB 93120 Compliant for Formaldehyde". Whatever finish, resin, or adhesive that was used for this wooden box, it is absolutely not suitable for food. Find another tea box to purchase. 1Clear top is flimsy but the rest is great Fits roughly 10 to 12 standard teabags. The clear top piece is plastic and flexible so I wouldn't stack anything heavy on top of it. The purduct is otherwise Sturdy and well made. The individual pockets are solid bamboo and stay perfectly in place as the are glued and grooved together. 4A "natural" tea box shouldn't have a funky chemical odor! There is certainly nothing "NATURAL" about the funky chemical odor that smacks you in the face as soon as you remove the bubble wrap from this tea box! Even after letting the box air out overnight, it STILL has a very strong chemical smell--inside and out! There is no way I am putting my tea bags inside... I'm guessing they would absorb the odor, and I'm worried about ingesting that same chemical! (A small label on the bottom of the tea box mentions Formaldehyde.) 1Beautiful tea storage boxI initially got one of these for myself and liked it so much I got one for my mom. I love drinking tea, but it can get chaotic trying to store the tea, so I thought this box would be a classy option. It comes wrapped in a bubble wrap envelope inside a retail box, so it s packaged well and is giftable. There s plastic film to protect the clear window as well. Both of mine had a strong odor, almost like moth balls, so I let it air out with the lid open for a few days. That solved the odor problem and my tea tastes great. There s 8 divided sections and I could fit about 18 packaged teabags per section for a total of 144 in the box. That s cramming them in a bit, but it works fine. I don t think I d put unwrapped tea bags directly in it, but I d wrap them in foil or wax to store in the box.The box seems very well made and is beautifully designed. I feel fancy every time I grab a tea bag out of it. It could be used for other things as well, like jewelry, snacks or small office supplies.I think this is a beautiful and functional storage box and highly recommend it for yourself or a gift. I m very pleased with it! 5So happy with this purchase.I had all my tea bags in my pantry, some in the boxes they came in and some just lose sitting around it took up so much space and looked messy. I was on vacation and stayed at a vacation rental home and saw that they had a bamboo tea box and it really made me want to drink tea, it looked so inviting and cozy next to the tea kettle. As soon as I got home I searched for one on Amazon and found this one; the price is great and the quality is perfect. It has 8 compartments and they are pretty deep, I couldn't believe it held all my teas so perfectly! Now I have all my teas in one place and it looks beautiful. So happy with this purchase. 5Nice appearance at first, but glue doesn't hold up and lid scratches easilyThis is an affordable tea box that looks good on the counter or in service but there are some issues with it. The window is plastic and has easily scratched so that quickly takes away from the wow factor. More importantly, the box is entirely glued together. There are no nails at all and ours came apart at the corner within 2 months of owning it. Granted, we live in the desert with very dry air but this seemed especially fast even for our climate. Rather than trashing it or sending back for another faulty one, I took it to my shop and reassembled it using a drill, finishing nails and wood glue. It wasn't a hard job but you'd have to have clamps, a drill and the skills to do it. Also, most people probably wouldn't take the time to repair such an inexpensive item. 3Delicate but functional tea bag storage for traditionally-packaged tea bagsThe tea box just arrived in adequate boxing and packaging and no apparent damage. The protective plastic sheets over the two window sides were pulled away cleanly and without ripping. The two pairs of magnets in the lid and the body opposite the hinges give a satisfying click when they snap together as the lid is closed. The clear material in the lid is not substantial, so care will need to be taken not to place heavy items on top of the tea box. Stacking exactly-sized tea boxes might be accomplished, but is not recommended because careless handling could lead to damage. The eight compartments are nicely sized to hold the individually-packaged tea bags traditionally provided by tea vendors. However, it is with no small amount of chagrin that I just opened a box of 100 Lipton tea bags that are not individually wrapped, but are stored in paper trays of 25, then sealed in plastic as a row of saltine crackers. The individual tea bags leave tea dust in the paper trays, and I assume they will leave similar droppings in the bamboo tea box. After decades of individual packaging, Lipton has chosen the least polite moment to devolve their tea bag packaging vis-a-vis my home storage arrangements. A tea box compartment that comfortably holds ten individually-wrapped bags will hold sixteen unwrapped bags, leaving tea powder in the bottom of the compartments. Perhaps a set of rinse-able plastic compartment liners could be invented and marketed. Yes, we are living in interesting times. 5Flimsy qualityI understand why it was only $12. However, I have never received this low of quality item when ordering from amazon, so this is a first bad review for me. The pictures don t show the dirt and dust that came on it. I tried to clean it up and tighten screws, but it seemed like it was stripped. When you put the tea bags in the box, the cubes around the side won t allow you to close the top fully, as the top frame is a little wider than the base frame. When opening the lid, it just feels like it s going to break, it s flimsy. Hopefully this was just a fluke item, but I am going to return it. 1
