Quality, but pass if you don't know precisely what you will do with it This falls into the odd category of "why did I get this?"For $10, it has solid construction. A good handle, a great blade, even a small ruler on the bottom of the blade. The knock on the star isn't for lack of quality compared to price, I assure you that.The problem is that it's been sitting around for a while now without any use.My family, we cook. We bake. I come home to salmon picatta, rattatouile, homemade pizza, fresh made antipasta salad... I try to bake cookies, or bread, or cake at least once a week. My wife is the chef, and I am the sous and the baker. We know our way around an amateur home kitchen, we have the hardware to boot, and we love using our hands to make our family and friends yummy victuals.So with that in mind... I thought I would use this as, well, a chopper and a scraper. That has not come to pass. In fact, I haven't found a use for it yet that a knife, pizza cutter (roller or straight), hands, or other tool doesn't do just as well.Bottom line: get this is you know you need it, pass if you don't know precisely what you'll use it for. 4Simple, Durable, and Effective I don't know how I survived so long without one of these. I use it at least once a week. If I need to divide dough for rolls, this works great, whether its a sticky wet sourdough, a rich heavy cinnamon roll dough, or a simple white bread. If pie dough start sticking to the surface, I pull this out and can remedy the problem without tearing the dough. When I'm making biscuits, I use this to fold the dough so I don't end up with ten pounds of flour stuck to my fingers. I would highly recommend this to anyone who does a lot of baking. 5The Perfect Scraper & Chopper I bought this OXO Good Grips scraper based on a recommendation from Cook's Illustrated America's Test Kitchen, after I tried America's Test Kitchen's other recommendation from Dexter-Russell. This OXO Good grips scraper is perfect. The handle is perfectly shaped to fit your hand well and comfortably. I also like the handle has a rubber, non-slip feel. The blade is also perfect, and has a nicely tapered edge. There are no worries here about any bent or sticking up edges that might scratch my countertop. Also, I like the etched in ruler on the blade as well. I've tried a few other scrapers, and you would be doing yourself a disservice by going with anything other than this one by OXO Good Grips. 5Just what I was looking for! I've seen this Oxo tool on many different cooking shows on TV. I looked in various big department stores for it, plus a famous kitchen store, but no one had it, so I ordered it from Amazon. It came in the mail yesterday, and I was very surprised how thick and heavy duty the stainless steel scraper is! There's even an inches scales engraved into it!! This will make my life so much easier, as I do a lot of cooking at home. The handle is heavy duty also. I'm always cutting up something, and using the back of a knife to try to scrape up onions, garlic, carrots, celery, etc, was time consuming. I can't wait to use this scraper when I make dinner tonight!! 5Not Recommended This product is labeled as Stainless Steele which should be rust resistant. After each use, I hand washed & dried the scraper to protect the finish. It rusted after only a few uses. I would not recommend this product. 1Strong scraper for my cast iron pan I use this to clean the grime out of my cast iron pan when I'm done. It is very strong and can really peel up stuck food.The only issue is the shape does not conform well to a round pan. To me it would make more sense if the edge was curved to work with a round pan.With a bit of finesse -- namely by scraping everything into the center of the pan -- it gets the job done quickly. 4Stainless? Love this product it has great potential BUT it says stainless steel and last week after using it I placed it in the sink for about an hour until I did the dishes and it all of a sudden had a very noticeable rust stain right in the middle that I cannot remove. I use it about once a week and I've only had it about 3 months. Very strange to get a rust stain on stainless steel. 4OK for a month only. It was good while it was fully functional and straight. After a month of use, the ends started to bend over for some odd reason. 1A scoop, a dough slicer and easy on the hands and wrists I have RA....so this is great for scooping up chopped veggies and meat. The chopping is another story.....I have used it to scoop onions,garlic, celery, etc. It is a must have to save the sharp edge of your knife.I also have used it to make yeast rolls. It cut the dough and did not stick. It have measurements to help cut the dough in pieces or you can use it to slice cookies that have been rolled and chilled, or the frozen cookie dough kind...I liked it so much I got one for my 80 something mother and she loves it!! 5I Won't Put It In the Dishwasher... I purchased this OXO Pastry tool because I've taken on the task of baking more and more of my families bread. ((This has been made easier, by the way, because of the techniques in this book: Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking. It really does provide some easy options.))What I found with the technique in the book I mentioned was that I need to not 'disturb' the dough, but rather I needed to cut it cleanly. And none of my regular knives were working out at all.This OXO chopper works great. It's very sharp and cuts through the dough cleanly.I would give it Five-Stars except for one thing and that is the black handle. It's well designed as far as shape, but it's made from that junky black plastic that Oxo started using sometime back, and I've found that after a number of dishwashings that the black stuff begins to deteriorate so that it leaves gooky-greasy smudges on other items.Consequently, since I want it to last, I hand wash.Definitely recommend. Excellent price (currently under 10) and works well. 4
