Decent quality, but poor design, making it unusable without modificationMy son has been asking for a booster seat for several months, so I gave this to him for his 3-year birthday yesterday. I came down to breakfast this morning to hear him crying, and it turned out that he was in tears over his disappointment with this product, mainly how low it was. I was able to raise it up by putting a piece of scrap wood under it, but really a good design would allow for some adjustment to the height. Also, having a piece of wood under it looks pretty ugly. But at least my son was happy after that.My main issue with this was the straps though. My wife had set it up for him initially, but when I went to adjust the height, that was when I realized that none of the straps were attached. I connected them around the back of the chair and under the chair, but neither half of either strap had a way to adjust the length. I looked underneath to see if the adjustments were inside the seat itself, but there didn't seem to be a way to adjust the strap length there either. He ended up using it with it being very loosely strapped to the chair, which means the straps aren't actually doing anything.Also, even if the straps could be tightened, on a normal chair, this would mean the booster seat would be flush up against the backrest of the chair, so the child's legs would not be able to hang down. It would be very uncomfortable to have to sit with your legs sticking straight forward instead of hanging down. It might be possible to wedge some things in behind the seat to keep it from sliding to the back of the chair, but again, this is very poor design.These are major three major design flaws that make this seat basically unusable unless you are willing to stack boards under it and don't mind the possibility of your child sliding back or falling out of the chair since this seat can't be strapped down properly. If it turns out that there was in fact a way to tighten the straps, I would be happy to adjust this rating up by maybe one star, although the other two flaws still make it a pretty poor design... 2Cushy and CompactIt is a very good,sturdy little booster seat and is easy to carry with you.The back rest folds down and makes the seat very compact.I had read the reviews on this seat before I bought it and noticed a few people mentioned it was hard to clean.I find this is true and the only reason I didn't give the seat a 5 star rating.There are nooks and crannies that catch food and make it difficult to get a thorough cleaning.The easiest way ,I have found for me,is to completely remove the seat from the chair it is strapped to,remove the cushion so you can turn the seat up side down and tap the food out,and then take a brush to the inside of the seat to clean it.Over all,I am happy with the seat and so is my grandson who uses the seat daily.I would recommend it to anyone needing both a booster seat and a compact seat to travel with. 4Hard to CleanI love OXO stuff, and this seat is high quality. The only thing I don't like about it is that there's a gap between where the foam seat and the plastic back meet, and tons of crumbs and stuff can fall down in there. The foam seat can be removed to clean it, but there's lots of nooks and crannies and the harness cannot be removed, so it's not as easy as just rinsing the plastic in the sink. If I could do it over again, I would get the OXO Nest seat. It's more expensive and it doesn't fold up (honestly who needs to fold this anyway?) but the foam is continuous up the back so there's no crumb trap. That said, I do not own the Nest seat, this is all just speculation. 3Great Booster!I purchased this booster to replace my 2 year old daughter's fisher price space saver high chair. She goes to daycare and sits at a table, no bib or anything and feeds herself...and it just seemed weird to strap her into the highchair at home, and she hated it. This is much more suitable for the "big girl" she is quickly turning into ( :-(* ) Also, my house is overrun with toys and kid clutter and I just wanted my kitchen table to look streamlined.It says this chair is suitable for 18 months and up but honestly I can't imagine using this chair for a baby of that age, unless they are pretty advanced with self feeding and not making a mess. My daughter would make a giant mess up until recently when eating, so I had to wait until it was developmentally appropriate to put her in the booster.The seat is well made and attractive, like all OXO products. The seat cushion is removable for cleaning and to adjust the straps. I find a lot of crumbs do get stuck in the crease between the seatback and the cushion. Not sure much can be done about that...maybe if they had made the cushion attach more flush against the seatback? There is about a quarter inch space. The straps are sturdy and hold her in well. She sometimes sways side to side when feeling naughty, and the chair has held her in well.In my search I could not find a comparable product for the pricepoint, It is stylish and functional, and I think for most cases, the chair will be able to slide under the table completely with this attached. The seat portion is 3.5 inches high when strapped to the chair, and the seatback is about 9 inches at its highest point. The other ones I looked at were ugly and bulky, not at all what I wanted. I purchased the taupe color and it is very nice and neutral and looks great.I took one star off for the crumb catcher issue. 4Great but cumbersome to clean if you have toddlers.It is the perfect height for my 16 month old that I purchased it for. I also set my 3 year old in it (he has a different booster), and the height was also perfect for him. So it will definitely be suitable for your child as they grow. It is sturdy and attractive.The only downside is that it is a pain to clean. The crease in the back of the seat catches crumbs during every meal. And to dump it out you do need to remove the entire seat from the chair, which adds another chore after every meal considering I do use the straps. Once my toddler grows out of her toddler stage of playing with food however, this probably wouldn't be an issue. My older child's booster does not have a crease and is a snap to clean, but I chose this model because it was taller and came in pink. 4Easy to clean, simple to use.This wonderful and easy to clean. A lot of people are complaining about it trapping food. Just walk it over to your sink and rinse it off removing the pad as you do it. Seriously, I'm a tired mom and hate complicated toddler things. This is not on that list. Once you set the size of the straps there is nothing to adjust. 5Like: -Great booster height for toddlers (1-3) -Great back ...Like:-Great booster height for toddlers (1-3)-Great back support-Pretty sufficient buckle that can be easily adjusted as your child grows-Washable-Foldable and therefore easy to transportDislike:-Although the buckle snaps easily and can be adjusted easily, it does not compare to over the shoulder buckles as seen in highchairs. For reference- we have the OXO Tot highchair and loved it while it lasted, but now our 2yr old prefers to sit at the table thus inspiring this purchase. And regardless of the cross strap, he still manages to climb out on days he is determined enough to do so. He still hasn't figured out how to unsnap it yet- so there's a plus.-The bottom straps meant to go around a chair are far far far too short. If you have anything other than traditional straight-back wood chairs then this will not do. We have a farmhouse style table w/ a bench for the kids and the straps do not fit around the bench, so we use zip ties to make ends meet (zip ties are life). Also doesn't fit on our fabric chairs- so either way we're out.At the end of the day the likes out-weight the dislikes- but it would still be fantastic to see the chair improve in some of the ways mentioned above! 3Great productI bought this chair for my toddler after graduating from an infant portable high chair. The chair is great quality, durable, easily secured to a chair. This is totally unrelated to the product, but just sharing our experience that it was necessary to buy a separate table to use with this. Our toddler was sitting in this chair at the dining room table and pushed off with his feet and the chair fell backwards. Thankfully, he wasn't hurt but it was terrifying for both of us. We went on Amazon that night and bought a TV-tray like table to scoot in front of our toddler for him to eat at and he loves the large surface area and we also use it for coloring, playdoh, etc. 5Hard to clean for messy eaters.I really want to love this seat, and probably will as my son grows, but right now it is kind of disappointing. I have two major problems.1. There is a gap between the back and the bottom that gets JAMMED with food and is a pain to clean. It s bad enough that I have considered not using it until my son is older and less messy. You have to remove the bottom to get everything out.2. The safety strap to go around the back of the chair was way to long for anything other then a full back chair. Only one side adjusts so it left a good three or four inches of extra strap. I solved this by sewing back the fixed side.Those are really my only major issues.My son just turned a year old and is very big for his age, 98th percentile. He was quickly outgrowing his highchair, and I was annoyed with it taking up space in our tiny kitchen, so I got him this booster around 10 months.It is a little short for his height, but I was able to solve that easily with a thick medical book underneath. Other then the gap in back this chair is super easy to clean with a damp rag or paper towel.
