Customer Reviews

Surface temperature varies but overall good griddle for the priceI measured the surface temperature in 9 spots across the surface. Temperature was set on 375 for pancakes and allowed to warm up 15 minutes. Temp varied from 407 to 457 degrees while orange heat light was on. When light went off temps ranged from 395 to 416. Not a deal breaker. I will just turn down the temp accordingly. The middle of the griddle was cooler. My pancakes cooked slightly uneven. Very little variation. I will just rotate them more in the future. I also cooked French Toast with soy milk. It did a good job. Some of the egg milk mixture stuck in the diamond grooves when flipping the toast. However it was a breeze to wash off. It is very easy to set up and take apart. It is super easy to clean. I store in the original box and styrofoam. America's Test Kitchen reviewed one for around $100.00 that cooked evenly. So for the price this one works fine for me. I would recommend. 4Saw other posts about warping, so initially set it ...Saw other posts about warping, so initially set it at lowest heat and gave it a couple of minutes. After surface temp stabilized on low setting, moved it to 350, then up to 500. No warping at all. Made pancakes with no oil and had absolutely no sticking. Very even cooking. 5It's good. Worth the price. It's roomy and cooks pretty evenly, though the right side seems to get hotter than the left.I do prefer my older model, for 2 reasons, but the surface on it was too scratched to use anymore.First reason I like the old one better: This model has no plastic edging to protect surroundings or body parts from accidental touching. And I have accidentally quite a few times rubbed up against this and burned myself. My older model had a drain area on 3 of the 4 sides where the back was the only area exposed.Second reason I like my older model: The drain tray was longer and narrower, which doesn't seem like it would make a difference, but it does. This one is wide and shallow, meaning it tips out easily. Am I nit-picking? Maybe, but it's an issue I've confronted early on, so I thought it was worth mentioning.I thought the surface may be more difficult to clean since it's ridged, but so far so good. I have a feeling this may make a difference later on.The thermostat plug fits snugly in place, which is a great improvement on my older model where the plug would fall out.If only Presto would make an adjustable leg so that you could have it drain to the front if you wanted. That would be magical. As is, the unit sits level and you have to tilt it to get the most grease off the top.Since I can cook a full pack of bacon on it, I'm satisfied. But I will still use a frying pan for pancakes. 3Not happy. Inconsistent heating and weird texture surface.I had high hopes for this electric griddle. I m not happy for a few reasons. 1. After a few uses it does not cook evenly. I only use for pancakes. 2. The texture surface is weird. 3. The temperature is not consistent. I ve only set it to 350 but it will become really hot, then not hot enough.I do like the removable handle/feet and it is easy to clean and store. I plan to replace it very soon. 1Used once with no problem. Second time, it didn't work at all.I purchased this back in the beginning of August 2017, but I didn't get around to using it until December 2017. I used it one time to cook some pork belly and it worked fine. Tried to use it again for the second time in January and it won't doesn't turn on/light up/get warm at all. Hoping this particular unit just happens to be faulty. I would be willing to write a new review if I can return this nonworking unit in exchange for a replacement. 1A good, solid purchase.I bought this as an easy way to cook pancakes for the kids. I love that the handles are detachable...and easily so. It makes for simple cleaning and storage. Another thing I like about this is that all the electronic components are on the cord. Because thermal conduction is used to heat the griddle (current from the wall heats the metal prong in the plug and the metal prong touches metal rods under the griddle that conduct the heat to the surface of the griddle), you can submerge the griddle to clean it. A caveat: I doubt the metal connectors to the rods and the screws holding the various pieces together are stainless steel so if you do submerge the griddle, make sure you dry it immediately and thoroughly so that the connectors and screws don't rust.My only complaint is that the griddle doesn't heat completely evenly. So when I make pancakes, some areas (i.e. those directly above the rods) heat faster than others. 4Not for pancakes! This griddle was a failure for pancakes. See the photo of the racing stripes this created when cooking. Preheated, correct temp, etc. Returned. Anyone know a good even heat griddle? 2Husband cooks all the time!My husband loves this griddle. I bought it for him after he used one in a vacation rental house and commented that he liked it. And now he uses this all the time.We have had this griddle for almost a year, and we still really like it. Things to love about this griddle:1 - the non-stick surface is really non-stick and very durable. It has a sort of odd surface - it's not smooth - has kind of a pattern on the top, but it is really hard, and really non-stick. It even holds up well with metal utensils (I know, cringe) on the non-stick surface.2 - it heats up very fast and can get quite hot.3 - the handles and power cord remove for cleaning and storage.4 - it's big - big enough to do 8 or more pancakes at a time - or 8 grilled cheese sandwiches - or six slices of bacon and four fried eggs. lots of room on this griddle.Things to not love about this griddle:1 - some of the parts feel cheap. as mentioned above the grill surface is great - heavy, durable, but the grease drip tray is cheap plastic and ours broke after a few months (not sure what happened there - i was not present at the time). The handles themselves are fine, but the clips that hold them on (they're removable) seem more fragile than they should be. (we mostly just leave them on)2 - the heat is not completely even across the grill. it's not like it's badly uneven; there are not cold spots, just hot and hotter. you learn pretty quickly where the hottest spots are and can rotate food around to make sure everything gets appropriately fried, grilled, melted. The reality is, the kind of cooking you do on this grill is quick, high maintenance stuff, with much flipping and stuff - so really, you just move stuff around to get the even cooking you want.3 - cleaning is kind of a pain: - Yes, the handles come off and can go in the dishwasher (as can the drip tray), but nothing else can. And removing the handles is a little finicky. They have clips at each end of the handle, which are easy to maneuver when you're setting up the grill and it's cool and clean and you can flip it over. But a little more of a pain when it's hot and covered with bacon grease. (as i said above, we mostly just leave them on)- the size of the griddle make it a little bit of a challenge to get clean. We have a kitchen sink with a faucet that has a hose, but without that it would be pretty difficult to rinse this. The non-stick surface it great, but the pattern i mentioned in the surface does make it a little more necessary to use a soft brush and scrub it off if you don't want residual bacon grease flavoring your grilled cheese (though, hmmm, that actually sounds kind of good)- storage. This thing does not fit anywhere very well. Even with the handles removed, it just doesn't fit in any of my cabinets. I thought about the top of the refrigerator. It has wound up with a spot on the counter kind of leaned up on the wall. Or of course, just sitting out on the island getting used every single day by my husband, especially when I'm on travel.Long review short - a few short-comings, but very happy with this appliance. 4Beware! This was not new and had a broken piece! We used the griddle. It was fine. Upon cleaning the drip pan we noticed it had an edge broken When we looked at the manual we found writing from Nov 2017 from a previous owner. We got it Jan 2018. Not cool Amazon. 1Best Pancake Griddle I've OwnedThere is a reason this griddle is the Amazon top seller and has so many positive reviews. This is the read deal and I could not be happier with this purchase. As described, the griddle has removable handles which are integrated with the feet the griddle sits on. That actually concerned me when I initially looked at the item description, since I suspected the removable handles and feet might make it wobbly. Fortunately, the overwhelmingly positive reviews convinced me to buy it despite my reservations. To my relief, I found the handles are extremely easy to attach and the assembled unit is rock solid. I probably won't be removing them that often but it is undoubtedly a great feature for folks that may have limited storage space.I also saw some reviews mention the textured cooking surface. A least from my experience, that is not a negative factor in cooking performance or the appearance of the food. From my first batch of pancakes, I could see no difference other than the pancakes turned out better than what I was able to cook on my last griddle. Unlike most griddles I have owned over the years, I could see no evidence of a "hot spot" where the area of a pancake over the heating element would cook darker than the rest of the pancake. Put simply, this griddle is a keeper!Only time will tell how this product will hold up over the long run, but so far, so good. I consider this to be an exceptional value for the money and would recommend it without hesitation. 5
