Customer Reviews

Excellent Product These work great and soak up a lot of water. They do take a long time to dry if full so I would recommend buying double what you need. 5Not as good as anticipated. We bought these to block off a gate during irrigation. They are light weight and easy to move while dry and then of course quite heavy when the little gels have absorb water. The problem is they just don't do a complete job. First, they are slow to become water logged. A lot of water has already ran under the gate and into the side yard and out onto the street--which can get us in trouble with the water company. Then, no matter how we pile them on top of one another and bend them to fill in corners, the water still gets through. I've got two sets so these problems are not caused by stingy use. They are almost impossible to find locally (Phoenix) so you might want to order one set and work with them to see if you can get them to work well. Irrigation starts again here in March of 2017 so I'll keep working with them and add an amendment to this evaluation if I figure out how to use them effectively. 3Good alternative to regular sand bags. THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU USE THESE FLOOD BAGS. I bought these bags because my patio would flood during torrential monsoon rains in Arizona. I placed them along the front edge of the patio to stop water from flooding onto the patio. They do work well but there are a few things better to know before you use them.1) It is better to wet them before the flood water starts to appear. It takes a minute or two for them to start absorbing water. I waited until water started flooding onto the patio to put them down and so by the time the bags were "fat" enough with water to act as a sand bag, water had gotten onto the patio. Once the bags were really "fat" like a sand bag they were heavy and with a second course of bags on top, they did stop the water.2) Between each torrential rainstorm I left the bags along the edge of the patio. As they started to dry out they began to flatten again but there was enough water left that it was not necessary to wet them again before the next storm.3) I left them along the edge of the patio to dry at the end of the rainy season but they were in the shade of the patio. After 3 weeks they were mostly dry and flat but it is better to lay them out in a very sunny location and they will dry flat quickly.4) Here is a VERY IMPORTANT THING TO KNOW. When you pick them up to move them they will be slightly wet on the underside. This wetness comes from the sack and it is VERY SLIPPERY.....so don't step on the wetness under the sack. Also don't step on the sack itself. After drying out, the inside of the sack absorbing material did feel sort of "chunky" instead of a "fine sand" feel. I am hoping that will not be a problem next year when I use these again. One more thing. I purchased these sacks in April, two months prior to and preparing for monsoon season.....cost $90 for 20 sacks. After monsoon season began I decided to order another box just in case. The same company had raised the price to $125 for the same 20 sacks.Overall I do recommend this product because they do work. 4anchored with bricks or something like that. Then layer the flood bags ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY saved my house from flooding. Just survived 50" of rain from Hurricane Harvey. I used 5 sets total, amongst 2 separate doors. Put a plastic barrier down first, anchored with bricks or something like that. Then layer the flood bags. Amazing. 5Don't have much good to say about these Having successfully used the long tube Quick Dam Flood Barrier, I really wanted to like these bags, but I find them difficult to use because the absorbent material shifts inside the bag. You have to have the material evenly spread out in the bag before getting them wet or else you end up with clumps of moderately saturated innards. But even when you're careful to do this before activating them, when you pick it up to move it, the saturated materials inside the bag shift and I found I then had to manually shift the absorbent material by hand (from outside the bag). These bags become slimy and while I consider that a small price to pay for the long tubes because, overall the most I have to touch them is to move the tube, but to have to smoosh and maneuver the inside materials through the fabric of these smaller bags - well... the slime factor became downright nasty. I seriously wanted to like these. There is a need for a smaller size than the tubes come in (to fill in spaces, and frankly, to move more easily), but I consider these a failed design (or perhaps mine were just defective) and a waste of money. I would love to see the tube design made in say... 2 ft lengths. 2Handy to have on hand when you need to block unexpected floodwaters quickly Great to have on hand for unexpected flooding. Works as advertised.Pros: Takes up minimal storage space until needed and quickly expands to full size when in contact with water. When kept on hand, can be pulled out for use when it's too late to make a trip to your nearest home improvement store for bags of sand.Con: Listed as reusable, but instructions included in packaging state that once wet, bags must be dried out of the sun (i.e. in constant shade or inside a barn or garage) in order to prevent decomposition and could take several months to completely dry and flatten. Ours were used in September and are laid out on the floor of our barn now to dry. 5Finally solved my flooding problem - wow! I have a sloped back yard and an inset exterior stairwell that leads down to the lower level of my house. When we get a lot of rain, water gets in the house. I have spent all kinds of money building an enclosure around the stairwell, regrading the walkway, building a little dam - you name it. While all those things made *some* difference, I still have gotten a little water. I was at my wit's end. A friend saw these and mentioned them to me. I read the reviews and decided to give them a try. Two days after they arrived, we had a flash flood. No water in my house. None. I put my bare foot on top of the Quick Dam that was at the downstairs door, and it was dry. I thought no water had gotten in. A little later, I turned it over to doublecheck, and it was indeed wet. Then I checked the one in the bottom of the stairwell, and it was swollen but not overflowing. My point - these sandbags can take in a LOT of water. They had room for much more. I bought a bag of 6, and I don't know that I'll ever use more than 2 or 3. They dry out pretty quickly in between rain storms. But I have extras on hand if we get recurring deluges. I'm in awe. And I no longer have to panic when the weather forecast calls for 2 inches of rain. This product has made a huge difference.Update January 2015:Five months later, I can still attest to the effectiveness of these sandbags. (And as you probably noticed, I technically don't use them as sandbags - I use them as water absorption bags.) The one issue with them is that you need a warm sunny day to dry them out. You need to be able to put them somewhere where the water will evaporate efficiently. That's a problem in the winter when it's cold and there's less sun to help out. I have bought another box of these to help me with my water issue, and I'm not complaining. If that's all it takes, I'm fine with this minimal cost and effort. It's just something to be aware of. 5Bought it for hurricane Harvey. I live in Houston and bought these a couple of days before Harvey was set to arrive. Although my area wasn't hit nowhere near as bad as others, water rose to 7-8 inches outside my back door. These bags did exactly what I wanted them to do and kept water from coming in. 5Clear gel contents escapes & leaves a huge mess I put several of these bags in my garage where water was coming in and they must have not been sewed closed properly because now I have a huge mess of clear gel like substance all over my garage floor and being tracked into the house . I'm not happy . 1They work, they look good in place, and add peace of mind. Get a bunch. These are great. I bought a few boxes which should last me years, because I get water under my basement crawlspace door every medium-heavy rain, and with these I don't need to worry about any water getting into the basement. I just keep them there permanently, with a cheap rag rug on top of them for the occasional times I need to walk through the crawl space and don't feel like walking right on top of them. When they absorb water, they get large like regular sandbags, and I keep them there for days or weeks until I have a chance to throw them out and replace with dry flat ones again. The instructions say you could dry them out and re-use, assuming it's just rainwater and not "dirty" water, which I tried once but they don't go flat again, just lose some volume and stay "moist" which attracts creepy crawlies, so now i just toss them. So much easier than actual sandbags.I'm afraid that this might be one of those "perfect" things that suddenly gets dropped off Amazon or discontinued by the manufacturer ... has happened to me so many times ... so you might want to buy a few boxes of them, like I did. 5
