    Just replaced a spring on a Lazy Boy Harbor Town ...Just replaced a spring on a Lazy Boy Harbor Town Reclining Rocker. It was difficult to stretch the spring so I used a turnbuckle with 2" eye bolt screwed into the wood and was able to stretch the spring and secure the new spring. Hope it works.I called Lazy Boy to get a price on replacing the spring and they referred me to a company that does this kind of work.. They estimated $200.00. Cant go wrong risking the $10 plus to try to repair it yourself. 5About 18.5 inches long and 8 gauge in the BRITISH standard wire gauge measurement systemThese only measure about 18.5 inches as compared to the advertised length of 19 inches. The wire diameter I measure is 0.155 inches which places them very near the 0.16 inches of 8 gauge wire according to the British standard wire gauge measurement (SWG), which is about 25% thicker than what 8 gauge wire would be in the American wire gauge (AWG) system. If you are looking for springs of this size this would merit a 5 star rating but I am rating them as 2 stars because they were poorly described in the product description. I will also note that these are rather stiff springs and anyone working with them will probably want a face shield, protective gloves, and a spring spreader in order to install them safely. 2Measure twice, cut once merchant sent a no cost replacement to save my bacon.I ordered the La z boy 18" spring because when I measured the bottom of the spring it was 18". Come to find out it was one inch too short. After considerable amount of struggle, I remembered if a spring is over bent it will not return to its original shape yet still be a spring. With a stout pair of vice grips I over bent sever of the turns and checked its length. Several bends needed "adjustment" and then the length was 19" as I needed and it went together very quickly. When you measure your spring, add at least one inch, or just go to the next biggest size, use bolt cutters or a dremel to trim to size of the out side of the curve. Can always shorten, harder to lengthen but it can be done.The merchant sent me a replacement which arrived the next, excellent customer service. 5If you can "improvise, adapt and overcome", these will work. if you want out-of-the-box ease...think againBe forewarned. The springs (18" as ordered) are only about 16" out of the box. The mounting brackets are not even close to the OEM Lazy Boy brackets. Thankfully, I was able to use my bench vice and a come-along to stretch the springs enough to fit. I was also able to jerry-rig brackets out of my garage junk bucket.. Overall, (knock on wood) my rear end has not hit the floor yet so I guess the springs are holding up. I recommend either another vendor or buying a 20" for your 18" needs 1Quality springs got the job doneI purchased two of these springs to replace broken ones in my sofa. Without having the proper tools or tearing my sofa apart more this was a simple, but strenuous fix. Everything I needed came in the package including clips and the end clasps.So far I am pretty happy with the springs. They are a lower guage than the original springs and the zig zag pattern is different but under the somewhat broken down sofa cushions you really can't tell the difference.I would give this product five stars if it came with any kind of instructions of guidance, which most people who would attempt this repair wouldn't need, but some of us who are more comfortable on the couch than under it could probably use the pointers. Also the pricing is a little high.Overall solid quality product. 4Chair is like newWhen the spring broke we called Lazy boy to see what it would cost to fix it. The answer was $150. On Amazon the spring with correct fasteners was less than $8. It took two to get the new spring installed, but now the chair is fine again. The youtube suggests changing out all the springs at once as there will probably be additional breakage, but I didn't read that until I had ordered the one. So far, so good. 5Easy self repairI am a guy who doesn't mind do-it-yourself projects. This was much easier than I thought it would be, with the proper spring stretching tools it's probably a piece of cake, but who has that?? So here is a tip, after getting the old spring out, connect the one end to where the old spring went,you cannot see it without taking the chair apart, use your fingers and "feel" it into place, then using a section of rope, have another person pull......when it reaches just use the hook from the old spring and you are done. 5Great product for repair of your older reclinersI purchased these springs to repair a broken spring on my 14 year old Lazy-Boy recliners.There are four zigzag springs in the set/pack, In my case I decided to replace only the two center springs with the new springs. What I noticed was that the one that had not broken was stretched a bit more than the two outside springs (this might not apply in all cases), I confirmed this later with my other recliner with no broken springs and a brand new spring set that was recovered from a lazy boy warranty repair!Finding the correct size:The 19in spring was a perfect fit for my 21in seat frame measured from the inside of the frame front to back and also taking a cloth measuring tape and measuring the spring on the outside of the arch end to end.To replace and install:I removed the seat from the chair frame. there are 8 wood screws total, 4 per side holding the seat to the chair mechanism. and there are 4 more machine screws holding the footrest or at least there should be (mine had one wood screw and 3 machined screws installed by the factory on one of my chairs!).There is no need to remove any upholstery to replace these springs, but you will need to remove the spring set/pack from the seat frame. Use some gloves and be careful, take note of protecting your eyes and others due to the tension on the springs and parts of the springs. You can buy the tool made for this or you can do this by hand if you have the finger and hand strength or like me have the following or make something that can help release the springs.In my case I had an old automotive brake tool used for removing and installing brake drum springs and with this I used one of the first spring clips removed by hand to grab the spring in the same matter they are install allowing pressure of the installed clip to be released. This allowed me to remove and reinstall the set with ease being that the first spring or last spring clip would have less tension on it while removing or reinstalling respectively, if you have extra clip/retainer, which I later did it made it that much easier.As for the installing the zigzag springs in the set, it was pretty straightforward, I pried the old retainers off with a couple of flat bladed screw drivers to get it started and some needle nose pliers to finish off the removal and reinstalled by crimping them carefully back on with the same pliers. Also, make sure that you bend the end of the spring at the front catch so that the spring does does not slide off, I forgot to do this on one set and it slipped off later. If you have bench vice this helps hold the spring while bending the end inwards, does not need much to keep the spring from moving laterally - side to side!The final result was very good, a firm seat, no sagging and possibly a fix for another issue I noticed with the lazy boy's fabric and material ware in the middle of the seat where the material had been folding over at the back of the seat and causing surface ware, which I never thought about as possible issue that could be related to the spring sag!Rating:4 stars - finding these here was great, shipment was great, but a day or so later I wanted to rebuild my other recliner and the price of the spring went up, which happens every time once their/the Amazon system sees activity on an item, their BOT increases the price of the item within seconds of the first order! Other than that I would recommend these, not impossible to replace and sure beats buying new chairs!Update, the price dropped and so I bought 4 more for other repairs on several other chairs that yet to have a spring break, but have signs of sagging. rating bumped to 5 stars. 5Robust spring replacements for your La-z-Boy reclinerI broke a couple of the support springs in my favorite chair, a La-z-Boy recliner with 17 years of trouble-free comfortable service. Rather than fool with someone else (and have to pay them) to repair the chair and deal with the transportation and all that, I decided to research it and try the repair myself.There are 4 springs supporting my chair's seat bottom. It was the two in the middle that broke after years and years of flexing. I measured them, found the 18" replacements on Amazon, and ordered two springs. The springs arrived very quickly (as usual with Amazon's fast ship times). I noticed right away that these replacement springs were a little more heavy-duty than the stock springs in the chair. By heavy-duty I mean the spring wire was a slightly larger diameter by a few thousandths. The spring kit included some attachment brackets that I ended-up not needing. (I didn't like the looks nor the design of the attachment brackets anyway so that's why I rated the product only 4 stars...the quality of the springs themselves are 5 stars)The installation:I removed most all of the old broken springs by using a small set of bolt cutters. I allowed the front ends of the two broken old springs (the end toward the front of the chair) to remain attached to their brackets and a portion of the front end of the broken springs remained attached to a cross-wire that helps to hold the springs in place. There was no need to cut them and upset that support. I did totally remove the rear end of the broken springs from the rear brackets. I was able to use the existing La-z-Boy spring retention brackets with these new springs. I suggest that you install the rear end of the spring first, gingerly working it through the existing bracket...don't worry...take your time...it will go through, no tools needed. Then, carefully flex the spring until the front end of the spring is able to be slipped under the existing front bracket. It will fit easily along with the remaining front portions of the old spring that I left in place. The rear and front brackets are totally different and of different design, so once you get the chair turned-over and take a good look with a flashlight at the rear bracket, you will see what I mean.Suggest that you wear eye protection since you will be installing a spring that is under pressure and a slip of the hand could send metal flying that could cause facial or other injuries. This is not likely, but you have only two eyes so wear some safety glasses to be on the safe side.The end result? The chair is back to normal, the springs are staying in place very well, they are quiet, great support, and I hope to get another 17 years or so of service. Happy, Happy, Happy! 4Exact size and fitOne of the springs broke in my home office chair, so I measured the exact length of the broken spring (20 inches) and ordered this item to replace it. The Amazon ordered arrived on time (with 2-Day delivery, it showed up Sunday morning) and I easily replace the old spring with the new one.The spring part itself was an exact match for the broken spring, so the stiffness matched up well also. However, the ends of the spring were obviously cut off from a much longer spring as I needed to trim one end with a dremel tool so I could slip it into the already installed brackets. The other end was cut a little too short (see photo), which means it could possibly slide out of bracket. I used a plastic zip tie to hold this end of the spring to the adjacent spring to help prevent any lateral slippage at the end of the spring with the short cut.In all, this was a cheap fix for my office chair and I'll have to see how well it holds up over time. 4
