    Picture of product misleadingOnline picture is deceptive; it turns out that two of the six shelves have significantly low "headroom" for books. It's a problem if you're shelving books, and you don't have a lot of very short paperbacks, and you care something about what order they're in. Seller as well as manufacturer should make shelf dimensions clear, especially if shelves are not adjustable. 3Nice sturdy white shelvesI live in a small house with a very large collection of books. I wanted a bookcase that I could easily lift and assemble by myself. I ordered my first set of three white bookcases which covered one wall. I did need the help of my handyman to secure the bookcase strap to the wall--which he accomplished in a matter of minutes. (Each book case comes with a strap.) A few months later, I ordered three more bookcases. A year later, I ordered three more--so now I have nine matching white bookcases which makes three solid walls of books.(The only negative is that the packaging contains styrofoam and other materials that are not recyclable. I hope this company changes to packaging material that can be recycled.) 5Easy to AssembleI ordered this bookcase a year ago and just got around to unpacking it the other night. It was well packaged and had no marks even though the box has been punctured in two places during transit. The assembly was a breeze even though the instructions were different than how you actually set it up. For instance it had a list of hardware ... which included eight pegs that were to be inserted in the bookcase to align and hold the lid in place. Well, there were no pegs included. Mine were already installed as part of the bookcase.That being said it was very easy to set up ... took all of one minute once you had it out of the box. The wood has a nice smooth finish. More importantly, it holds more than I thought it would. I cannot comment on how it will hold up, since it has only been in use a couple of days. However, I'm confident enough that it will hold up since I'm back to purchase another one. I'm placing them side-by-side behind a sofa.Note re: cost: I purchased mine on 30 July 2018 for $129.99. It is now $142.42. I do think it is a bit pricey, but I don't have much experience lately with knowing how much something like this should cost. Quite honestly, the ease of putting it together and getting it in place so quickly makes the price worth it to me. Especially now, since my life is full of stress ... and the fact that I'm got getting any younger. So I appreciate the ease of setup. However, I will definitely come back to update my review if I have any problems what-so-ever! Right now ... I'm happy with my purchase.I notice they carry a tall bookcase that appears to be at least twice the height of the one I purchased. My impression of this bookcase is that I would be leery about getting the tall bookcase ... if you are planning on loading it down. Paper books on the upper shelves would be okay, or to put a potted plant or two, etc. However, I always purchase hard back books and would not consider putting many of them on the upper shelves. With any tall bookcase it is a good idea to secure it to the wall. As our grandmother's would say ... "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!" 4This bookshelf looks very nice and is easy to assembleThis bookshelf looks very nice and is easy to assemble. I wanted real wood as opposed to composition, which was an important factor as composition shelves can eventually start to sag under the weight of a row of books. This unit appears to be made of bamboo wood, which is strong and light. The finish is nice and it matches, although it's a little darker, the oak floor and built in bookshelves in our study. The shelves are of a "butcher block" type construction while the frame, composed of thinner members, does not appear to be. This would probably be a natural consequence of the shape of bamboo. Due to the color and fine grain of bamboo, the butcher block type construction of the shelves is barely perceptible unless one looks for it. Dome flaws are that the undersides of the shelves have been partially bored through, as if the holes were meant to receive dowels. Perhaps these shelves are also parts for a different unit on the production line. Be that as it may, since these partial holes are in the undersides of the shelves they are not visible. Of real concern, and the reason I awarded 3 stars, is that shelves are not evenly spaced, rendering two shelves unusable for books. The space between the top of unit and first shelf is about 6 inches, while the space from the third to the fourth shelf is around 7.5 inches. Neither has enough room to accommodate books, which is my application. So instead of top, bottom and 5 shelves for books there are to, bottom and three shelves for books. I thought I might have assembled incorrectly but a quick check revealed that this is a design flaw. I should have gone with Ikea real wood bookshelf, which i was considering. 3Attractive, nice out-of-the-box experience - but I don't know where they got that pictureThis thing is just a piece of cake to set up and use. It folds into shape, and it's ready to go. No tools, and literally seconds out of the box to get it ready to use.The wood is nice quality, and the overall design is attractive. The two lower shelves are big enough for notebooks or just about anything else you would want to put there.Besides the fact that it's more expensive than bookshelves you put together, it has one other drawback. The top shelf is quite short. Don't be fooled by the picture on the product page. I don't know where they got that picture, but the top shelf is not anywhere near that tall. It won't even hold a standard paperback straight up. You'll need to put small items in there.I have uploaded two pictures, one showing the actual full unit, and the other showing the size of the top shelf using two paperback books. Notice that the paperback on the right will not fit standing straight up. 4Perfect for my use next to my chair.I bought this to stand next to my easy chair, to replace a table. The table was always cluttered and stuff was falling off all the time. This bookcase is perfect. Everything is organized and easy to find. I like to buy folding bookcases, as if not needed at the time, they can just be folded up and put away, easily. I also like it came with the top, where many others do not, and you have to buy them separately. I had read that the top of this one did not fit correctly, and that the user had to drill more holes. Yes, it was just a tad off, but, with a little arm wrestling (I am 78), on my part, with no help, I got the top to fit. By doing it this way, it fits snugly and is not lose. Just align the holes with the pegs and give it a hard smack with the hand. Pops right into place. There are little pads, with glue, included, just in case the holes are too big, or, in case you give up and drill new holes. Will buy this, again, should the need arise. 5DON"T BUY! Poorly made. Shelves don't fold down properly b/c no bracket slot and top dowels do not align with holes.This was a waste of time and energy. See pics attached. Holes and pegs on top shelf are misaligned so the shelf does not sit on the top correctly. In addition, the company forgot to put a slot on the bottom of the second shelf for the metal bracket to hold the shelf level. You'll see the slot on the shelf above in one of the pics. So, the shelf would not set into the brackets flat. Now I have to repackage and tape the darn thing and put it back out on my porch for UPS to pick up AND I have to be here waiting, wasting my time all day because the company didn't use quality controls to prevent this. What a waste of time, energy and money. I think Amazon should issue a refund and the customer should simply keep the product when it is like this... so poorly made. This would alleviate the risk the customer has of investing their time into a crappy product. And, of course, the company did not include its name/phone number on the packing list so that I could call and try to resolve it in a simpler fashion. 1No assembly required for these very sturdy bookshelves!These bookshelves are wonderful. I purchased two of them because the price was right. There is no assembly required, just open the shipping box and unpack, set the top on the pegs, fold down the shelves, and use. They are sturdy and I love the color I chose. I wish I had purchased two more at the time though. I live in a rental house and don't want to put holes in the walls to anchor them (I have no small children that might pull them over). I chose not to use the provided glue to secure the top to the wooden pegs because when I want to fold the bookcase that would detract from that feature. The first shelf is narrower than the bottom two and I use this for CD's and other items, such as larger books that I can lay flat. I would buy these again any time! 5Adequate shelf. Not manufactured with precision, and has 2 shelves that are too short for most books.The main top and bottom pieces took about 30 seconds to put together. But the holes on the very top shelf aren't drilled to fit onto the pegs in order to complete the assembly. I'd say it's not manufactured with precision. I've been filing away at the final hole for about half an hour trying to make it fit, and have finally decided to just pound the pegs all the way in and give up on the top shelf. In fact, if you put the top shelf on, the next to the top shelf is less than 6 inches high. The middle shelf is also short, less than 7 inches. So neither of those shelves will hold a standard paperback book, but would be fine if you're lying books down on their sides. But it's a good, sturdy, adequate shelf, with 4 useful-sized shelves, or 5 if you leave off the top shelf. 3Where Has This Been All My Life? *So Easy!*I wish I d bought this years ago! Exactly as shown online and in the video. Arrives in a box wrapped in protective wrapping. Take out a section (will be two that stack if you buy the taller bookcase), open the sides, and the shelves fold down like vertical blinds. (new term >Horizontal blinds!) SO EASY! And then just put the top shelf on and DONE. No stupid tiny wrench, no pegs or posts or glue. Plus, when we move, we can fold the down in two seconds, wrap it securely, and make sure that the movers don t gouge it. Highly recommended and I may buy another one! 5
