Customer Reviews

Works great for pressure cooker, once you change the handleI have a 6qt and 8 qt Instant Pot and was looking for a strainer to cook small grains like quinoa and rice, something that could steam my veggies, and something to keep some meats out of the liquid while it's cooking. This seemed like the perfect solution. I read the reviews, pros and cons, and knew I would need to alter the handles to fit into the pot. I'm not sure why some people were upset by this, it's much cheaper than other options and only took a little tweaking. My husband the rim of the basket into a vice grip and then used a pair of pliers to simply bend the handle inward. I didn't want the handle removed all together since this seemed like it would be hard to get the basket out without handles. I figured if I didn't like the alterations, I could always remove them later.Well, it's been almost a year now and I love it! It's used almost daily and I havent had any issues with the original soldering of the handles coming off, or any part of the basket weave breaking due to constant high pressure. It's easy to throw in the dishwasher and doesn't keep any odors locked in. I keep it stored right inside my pot since it's used so frequently.I haven't needed to remove the handles, but it is a very tight squeeze in my 6 qt. I really make sure the lid is secure and firmly attached before I start cooking in it because I don't want any issues. It fits much better in the 8qt. I don't have the 7 qt (yet) but would imagine it would fit fine once you alter the handles. I submitted 2 pictures inside the pot. The smaller one is the 6 quart, the roomier pot is the 8.I would only recommend buying this for an Instant Pot / electric pressure cooker if you understand it will have to be modified before it will fit. It's really easy, and well worth the cost savings! 5I like the feet.Didn't need to remove the handles to fit my 6 qt Instant Pot, just bend them in and they are still usable when needed. 41-star reviews have no clue what they're talking about.I'm stunned at how many reviewers are giving this basket a one-star rating because it doesn't fit in their Instant Pot. Ummm...... the manufacturer doesn't make any attempt to advertise it for that purpose. Amazon may say 'frequently bought with' but again, the basket description makes absolutely NO claims that it works in the IP. It's like buying a blender and complaining that it won't wash the dishes for you. So if you want to complain to anyone, complain to all the IP websites that tout this without bothering too mention that it doesn't work unless you break out your tools.Okay, all that said, I did buy this for my instant pot, however I read the reviews and knew what I was getting. I knew I'd need to bend or remove the handles. That was a challenge, and required two people and three adjustable wrenches, but it now sits beautifully in my 8-quart pot. I don't know the dimensions of the 6-quart, so I don't know whether it would work in one.I'm going to mostly be using this for making hard-cooked eggs, not veggies etc., so cleaning it won't be a big issue for me. However, as with any mesh strainer, it may be tricky to clean food that gets caught in the mesh. That's the nature of mesh strainers, so it would be silly to downrate it for that.I've attached a photo of our metalsmithing. I'm holding two adjustable wrenches clamped tight on the welds holding the handle (a locking wrench would have worked better but we didn't have any). My husband is using another adjustable wrench to bend the handle. 5Perfect for the Instant Pot!A website entitled Must-Have Instant Pot Accessories: The *Only* 5 You Really Need, with a url ofhttps://traditionalcookingschool.com/food-preparation/must-have-instant-pot-accessories/suggested removing the handles from this strainer to fit in the pot. It took a little maneuvering to remove the handles with a sturdy pair of pliers, but they did snap off and the fit really is perfect. So far, I used it to make stock. The holes are very fine and lifting out the basket of ingredients results in a perfectly clear stock - much easier than lifting the whole pot to pour it through a strainer.I used these grippers I bought from Amazon to lift - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZM6MEI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1The cost for this stainless steel strainer is very low, and it goes right in the dishwasher. 5Possible to Convert to Fit 6-Quart Instant Pot & Keep HandlesI bought this for my Instant Pot, but opted to keep the handles. Just think how much stuff can fit in this basket for steaming! If the solder spots are C-clamped while manipulating with pliers, you improve your odds of keeping the handles. To fit the 6-quart Instant Pot, there is only 1/4" between the basket and the liner pan of the Instant Pot, so the handles cannot jut out more than that. Also, the handles need to bend a bit so the Instant Pot lid can be secured. I have attached some photos of our practical (if not perfectly executed). I tested that I was indeed able to lock the lid of the Instant Pot with the basket in place. If you have an 8-quart Instant Pot, you won't have to manipulate the pot as much.If the manufacturer reviews the comments on Amazon, he should realize that a slight variation in the product design, eliminating the need for customer jury-rigging, could justify a slightly higher price, yet result in sold-out inventories! 5Basket mod for InstantPotAbsolutely positively does NOT fit into an InstantPot. Unless....you use a pair of pliers and gently bend/flex the handles back and forth until the welds pop. On mine it only took a couple tweaks and the weld snapped. Work on one side of the handle until it breaks, then the other side of the same handle. When that one comes off work on the other handle. Both of mine came of quite cleanly. Work slowly and gently; taking care not to bend or mutilate the wire basket. I am probably making it sound a whole lot harder than it actually was. Took me about 90 seconds to do it. But once the handles are off the basket will clear the top of the Instant Pot and the lid will close securely. Even with the InstantPot rack underneath the basket. The diameter of the basket is fine. The height of the basket is fine. It's just the stupid handles. Snap em off and the basket looks like it came with your InstantPot. 3Works as steamer basketYes it did. I bought it to use in my pressure cooker. Had to snap off the handles so it would fit 5great for instant pot and other usesgreat quality basket. works well for washing fruits/veges, and straining liquid out of ground meats/etc... I also use this to steam vege's in my instant pot. I tried to straighten the handles like others mentioned, but still did not get a good fit. I had to remove the handles completely to use in the instant pot. this was easily done (though with some force) with pliers. It's great that this basket has feet, and sits by itself in the pot (just a little water underneath). 5Nice looking and very functional high capacity strainer.First, for those who are concerned that the handles break off too easily, I can say that there is no chance whatsoever that they will ever come off accidentally. At least, not if your strainer is anything like mine. I had a bit of difficulty snapping them off with a bit of pliers but got it to work. Unfortunately, I wound up with a tiny tear in the screen as a result. Not really a tear so much as a pointy piece of wire which I bent back down with the pliers. It is a nice sturdy strainer. It came misshaped, partially compressed so that one side was much taller than the other. But it was easy to straighten out. I wish I bought two as I see that it is currently unavailable. The mesh is fine enough to hold quinoa without letting too many grains go through, though some do go through and some do get stuck in the holes. I have not found a great way to rinse that grain! 56 quart pressure cookerAldi's sells a 6qt 11psi electric pressure cooker for $40 every Fall, and I wanted to try an alternative to the typical soft silicon baskets which are all really hard to lift out above the boil water of this 6"x6" pot. I wish designers would pay attention to how people use this product and put the handles on loops so they can be leaned inward. Since I don't have metal working tools, my DIY solution after snapping the handles off was to use 50LBs braided fishing line and silicon air tubing to fashion a handle tied around where the mesh doubles up under the rim. if you are a clean freak you can seal the job with aquarium silicon glue to keep food debris out of my handle design. I was relieved to find the raised base leaves room for 2 cups of water, which is the minimal amount for boiling water to steam the food above in a 6qt pot. I steam a gallon of roots and nightshades twice a week, so this basket will help make this healthy routine go smoother. I also steam a lot of chicken as I like the moist flaky texture and that most of the excess fat found in low cost legs and thighs dark meat will end up in my boil water, not still in the chicken flesh. this way I can enjoy tasty chicken protein just as lean as boring white breast meat for a third of the cost. 4
