Customer Reviews

Great personal filtration bottleThis is the second one of these bottles I have purchased for my husband and he adores them. He is very picky about his drinking water, but he wasn't staying hydrated enough so this was a great compromise. He also travels frequently so he will often take this through airport security empty and then once he's to his gate, he will fill it up in a water fountain. I've put it through a dishwasher before and it's held up fine, but I mostly just hand wash it due to the filter. The quality is great and it holds up well, but the reason we had to repurchase was because my husband left his in his car for a really prolonged period and the sun warped it a bit so anytime he used it after that it smelled and tasted like plastic. That's nobody's fault but his own, but it is definitely a warning to those who tend to forget their bottles in their car. 5The Wife Loves ItThe title sentence says it all...as we know, if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. :)I purchased this bottle because we live in the country, and while I enjoy the taste of our water, my wife doesn't like our water, as it's softened. It's not overly salty, but in any event, mileage may vary, as the saying goes. I didn't think it made sense to purchase a reverse osmosis system for our house (yet), or a filtered water pitcher. This seemed like a good substitute. My wife really has no complaints; about the only down side, she says, is mainly a perceived one - that it might be nice to have a hard plastic or metal version of this bottle, as the bottle is pliable. This being said, it's held up very well through several CrossFit workouts and normal everyday usage, and unlike several other filtered water bottles I've tried in the past, one doesn't need to be able to 'suck the chrome off a trailer hitch,' as the saying goes, to be able to obtain water from this bottle. The replacement filters are fairly cheap as well. :) 5Worst Re-design EVER!!!!I used to be a Rubbermaid customer for two years, ever since I first purchased the best filtered water bottle in the market. Several months and filters later, I come to find that the screw-on filters that formed the staple of the bottle were re-designed to a "simpler" pop it in and drink design. This is such a bad move, here are the reasons why:1. The filter just sits there, not attached to anything. There is no true separation between filtered and unfiltered water. What comes out of the spout is an unwanted blend of both.2. The bottle spills water from the main lid. No matter how tightly you screw the bottle with the new filter, the new filter uses some thread space to fit under the lid. This means the leak-proof seal that defined the bottles is now gone. With each sip, a considerable amount of water leaks; not good unless you plan to drink next to the sink.In short, Rubbermaid should go back to the old screw-on filters. 1Good for use with bad tasting or city water...save money at the gymI like this bottle to use when I am at the gym. My gym is in an urban area and the water in that part of the city has bad taste and is suspected to have some nasty chemicals, it is considered by most to be undrinkable. The gym has bottled water at about $1.85 a smaller bottle, and I could really use two of that size, one during my workout and one after. So a filtered water bottle that I could refill at the gym water fountain or sinks quickly was the cheaper option. I was surprised how well it filtered out the bad taste. Just make sure to follow the instructions for initial use to filter out the charcoal type debris. That being said, I don't really like the screw top cap, it requires using two hands to access the water, so I only use this bottle for the gym and have a different water bottle for general use that has a easier to use top. 4Good Filter Bottle With Screw-In FilterKnowing the filter style had changed from a screw in to a drop in, I ordered this bottle hoping to get the screw in filter with it, which I did. With the screw in filter, it works great. I can definitely tell a difference in drinking tap water with and without the filter. The larger capacity is nice, and while it's a sturdy plastic, it can still be squeezed, unlike the Brita bottles that are TOO soft, thus causing leaks at the cap. No leaks with this bottle! I also like that the drinking spout is covered with a cap, which is difficult to find, as most caps are exposed to the elements in some way. With all that said, my bottle was packed well, but it arrived looking like it had been slid around on the floor of the warehouse a bit, with a lot of scuff marks and small scratches. No integrity damage, but still worth noting. Also, as others have mentioned, the 'finger loop' cap strap is also a sturdy plastic, but it's construction is a bit awkward. Makes it easy to hold, but the cap is hitting you in the cheek as you drink. Finally, the bottle is a bit more contoured than the picture leads you to believe. It makes it easy to hold, but it is an awkward shape around the waist.I'll update this when I have to replace the filter, as I assume I'll be forced to buy the new drop-in model. Unless Rubbermaid listens to it's customers and brings back the old version, but we'll see. 4Perfect for the golferI walk at least 9 holes after work each day and find this product is a necessity. Golf courses use tap water with unfiltered ice to keep their on-course coolers filled with cold water. Now if you're at the course nearly everyday, why put your body through drinking 32+ oz of unfiltered water each time you go out? Or wasting $10-20 on the drink cart for Gatorade or other cold refreshments. This water bottle is the perfect answer to a cleaner body. My course has coolers every 3 holes and this is a perfect size to keep me hydrated in between fill-ups. The screw top is convenient and is not a hassle to screw off or keep out of the way while drinking. The filter has a reminder dial as to when to change to a new filter. Every few weeks I suggest running the filter under some hot water to remove any large sediment.I highly recommend this bottle, it's durable, surviving over 200+ rounds of golf and barely showing any age. Oh by the way, the black and gray color goes perfectly with the Ogio Grom bag in stealth color OGIO Grom Stand Bag. 5New filter design gets moldyAs previous reviewers have noted, Rubbermaid seems to have changed the design of the filter that fits this personal filtration bottle. My guess is that the new filter was designed such that the bottle could be filled without repositioning the filter, by having the filter rest on the inside lip of the bottle. Unfortunately, the new design allows unfiltered water to leak into the mouthpiece, and stagnant water pools around the filter, causing mold to grow.Leakage: Good. This bottle does not leak if the main lid is closed tightly.Convenience: Excellent. The cap is attached to a plastic strap so it can't get lost.Filtration: Fair. Unfiltered water escapes through the fill holes which are molded into the filter.Sanitation: Poor. Because the filter is not flush against the lid, water pools in the concave surfaces of the filter and mold quickly grows. The filter is not easily washable.Noise: Good. The fill holes built into the filter keep the bottle quiet when drinking, unlike the Bobble, which makes loud whistling sounds as air rushes around the filter back into the bottle. 3Works GreatI had this bottle for at least six months now and I got to say, it works great. Here are some Pros that I found:1) The bottle is affordable.2) The bottle is durable. It is made out of plastic, but it is hard plastic that returns to its original shape when you squeeze it.3) It looks great. The bottle itself looks very sleek and shiny, making it nice to take anywhere from your house, to work, gym, when you are running, and everything in between. I personally use it when going to gym and when I am in my college dorm.4) The water tastes great. I hate the water in my college dorm. It tastes horrible. With this, I can't taste that awful chlorine or as I call it "pipe" taste.5) The tether that you can use to carry your bottle with one finger is attached to the cup. When you unscrew the cap, you can either push the cap down where it is attached to the bottle, making it easier to drink your water, or you can pull it all the way up and hold it with your hand while drinking.6) The little filter indicator under the filter lets you set a month when you bought your filter so you will know when to change it again (every 3 months or so, depending on your usage).7) A gentle squeeze gets a lot of water going through the filter, and the filter allows air to go in after you let go of the bottle. This is pretty quiet.I am very happy with this bottle. I think it makes the water taste great and I've noticed I drink a lot more water now, which is always a plus. 5Really stupid and very frustratingThis is the filter I bought with my bottle...yes, the same bottle as pictured here with this filter. This is the wrong filter!! Even though the picture is what you do want (a screw top), what you get is a different filter without a screw top. If you read the description, a "ring" is mentioned. This method of attachment doesn't work with these bottles. I bought the bottle and replacement filters 2 years ago; I can't believe this mistake still hasn't been fixed! I actually just now went to finally use my replacement filters and found that it's all wrong. Of course, way too late to return now...Really stupid and very frustrating! I still don't know which filter I can order to get what I need....cuz this ain't actually it. Argh...Update (Because it just keeps getting worse):Apparently, the green bottles use the screw filters, but the others use this loop filter. (So weird.) They no longer make the green bottles or the screw filters anymore. Anyone who needs a screw filter is out of luck, apparently.I ordered another bottle (a blue one) that would actually use the filters I now have 4 of. Have always loved the bottle and was willing to buy another so that I could get on with my life. After reading reviews and going all geeky, I ordered a water meter. My two year old green bottle and filter performed better than this brand new blue bottle and filter! Because I couldn't believe the numbers I was seeing on the meter, I bought some distilled water. The meter read 0, as it should. Then I put the distilled water in the blue bottle, squeezed it in to a glass and it read 54. That's right! The filter actually ADDED crap to the water. Seriously?I just wanted a darn screw filter. Oy. 1Dunno what everyone else's problem was.Okay, to address a few common concerns:-It does not leak. It does not leak while you drink from it, or when it is closed. Not even when you squeeze it and its closed.-It is not hard to drink from, unless you are a child. A five year old might have trouble squeezing it to drink from it, but a five year old would also be satisfied by the amount that come out when it is not squeezed. No, you can't suck water out, but you knew this.-All of the water gets filtered! I repeat, it all gets filtered! The holes around the edge of the filter? They are inconsequential. The top of the filter matches up with a tiny "rim" on the inside of the cap. That is why water doesn't pour out, it dribbles when it is tipped. It has to go through the filter. I don't think the one star reviewers understand basic design concepts. Their bottles may have leaked or had issues because they were using the 2nd gen filter with the 1st gen bottle. The "holes" on the sides let you fill the bottle without taking out the filter.-The water tastes great. Make sure you follow the instructions and squeeze a full bottle through before you try and drink from it. My tap water tastes like nasty creek turned pool water. Its awful. This bottle makes it taste just like bottled water. Its amazing, really.-The cap won't hit you in the face if you don't shove it up your nose. You can pull the loop to shorten the tether so it doesn't flop around. Once again, might be an issue if you are five.If you are looking for a personal filter bottle, buy it. It's cheap. It does what it is supposed to. You can fit ice in it. I will update if I have any issues as described here. Until then, I will enjoy my tasty water. 5
