    caveat emptorif we hadn't assembled it--with an incredible amount of flying-all-over-the-house-styrofoam-- would have returned it. the seat was advertised as leather, to be exact " Bi-cast Leather" but is,in fact, 100% polyurethane foam(per the tag affixed to the seat.the construction is cheesy,unbelievably cheap. hard to understand how amazon allows this clearly false advertising. this product should be removed so that other buyers do not have to deal with the disappointment we faced. it is relatively cheap--but you get what you pay for. caveat emptor 2Hydraulic Lift Broke After Less Than a YearWe bought 3 of these stools less than a year ago, and one does not work anymore. As soon as you sit in it, it sinks down to its lowest level. We are using them at our kitchen island, and now the top of the island is at shoulder height when you sit on the stool. These are not inexpensive stools, and they should last longer than 10 months. I weigh 130 lbs. and my husband is 180 lbs., so we are not over the weight limit for this item. I would not purchase them again. They are not super comfortable, and the grey color is more of a silver color with a slight sheen. The leather is bonded, and does not look as rich as all leather. I should have sent them back when I first ordered them, but I was having company, and didn't want to be without stools. C'est la vie! 2Very Sturdy Construction...Very Poor PackingPros:I just got two of these yesterday and the only reason I bought them is because a friend had them and I got a chance to see how solid they were. The base is surprisingly heavy and the overall construction is very sturdy. I would trust someone over 200 lbs on these stools.Cons:The packaging of these stools leaves a lot to be desired. (original packing--presumably from China.) At least 1 strap on the seat of both chairs I ordered had been damaged because of poor-packing. However, the straps can be "rotated" just enough to hide any specific defect. This is the only thing that prevented me from returning both stools I received.Also, the styrofoam used as padding was cheap and without a doubt the messiest I've ever encountered--and I order a lot of stuff online. It took me longer to vacuum up styrofoam than it did for me to assemble the stools. Seriously. 4Beautiful Design and Great Additions to my KitchenPer another reviewer. THESE ARE LEATHER. Very well constructed and super sturdy. Fast Delivery. I would give it a 5 star rating, but the screws were a tab bit long. 4Stools are not sturdy enough for me.It wasn't long at all before these stools started to tip, even thought they almost never get used. I hope a picture is worth 1000 words, or even 100! The bolts come loose on the stools because of the wobble. This is exacerbated in our case by the stools having to be used at top position at our very tall counter (48" I think), when the wobble creates kind of a lever effect on the base of the stool. We also have a clefted slate floor, so the base does not sit totally flat.It might function fine for you if you have a flat floor and are careful with them, but they did not work well for us. 1Nice!Nice quality. Good buy for the money. I'm 240lbs stools hold my weight well no struggles with the hydraulics. Buy 5Superb in every way!At our recent housewarming party, all of my guests LOVED these chairs - so comfortable and great looking! Patience is required when assembling them (the directions could be better). Initially, we were concerned that the gas cylinder didn't work; however, we needed to remove a cap (not clearly stated in the instructions). This, of course, activated the cylinder - and all is now right with the world. 5They look pretty... but don't work the way they shouldI'd received chairs in kind of good time ... (I was expecting them faster), but I haven't been able to use them due to gas lift for some reason doesn't work properly... Can somebody tell me the right way to make gas lift work the way it should??? Any kind of tips are welcome!!Besides that...They are easy to assemble, screws are a bit to long, modern good looking, solid base... 3Overall - a solid productPost purchase notes. I've had these outside going on 3 years and in heavy rain and still look great! Loving it!A couple of points -One out of four came with the wrong bolts! So I have to send the whole 45 pound package back, just to get the right bolts! Kind of lame.The price seems to change dramatically every day. So you might try to wait to see if you can get them for $200 or so.The stools are a very nice balance between sturdy vs. elegant. I find that they are solidly built of beautiful stainless steel that should last forever. The chair is nice because the leather (or whatever it is) flexes nicely. A taller back would be nice, but the design is correct mechanically - because a taller back would require a larger base to prevent from falling backward.I'm 180 pounds and they take my weight easily.They are easy to assemble - It takes longer to get it out of the box and deal with all the styrofoam than it does to assemble it! Be sure to open the box outside, because the styrofoam is broken up. Before you unload everything - check the small "parts" box to be sure you have 4 small bolts and 3 larger ones.I plan on using these outside, and I think they'll do just fine. If/when the "leather" wears out, it looks easy to replace.I thought about building my own stools, but there is no way I could compete with the price of these. They likely have $200 USD of stainless steel in them alone.I'm a little baffled about how the "gas-lift" works. There are no instructions at all. The first 5 or so times you try to raise the seat, it just goes back down. It seems as if it needs to cycle up and down a few times to fill the gas cartridge - I guess. After awhile, I pulled the handle and the seat went up by itself. Some instructions would be super helpful, but eventually you will figure it out.I think they are a solid product with great clean lines. They just need to work on the quality control more. 4Not so comfortable but the style points make it a winnerOne of the problems with reviews is that there is no screening process--- anyone can post just about anything. You really have to do your research to figure out which reviews have helpful info and which ones don't.I use this chair just about everyday in my computer area. It's solid, stylish and reliable. Not so comfortable but the style points make it a winner. Only problem is you have to put it together, and that's where some of the reviewers fail. Like the lady who failed to take the black plastic covers off the gas lift and wonders why they lean. Or the guy who can't tell bi-cast leather from foam.If you're looking for a stylish, if not somewhat expensive solution to bar seating, and you have a stout behind, these will do quite well. Just get someone to put them together for you if you don't know how. 4
