This product is great for keep little ones from unplugging & attempting to plug things back in. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because I really wish it was a little wider so it could be used for items that have to be sideways, like the adapter in my picture.
4Highly recommend for child proofing
Perfect solution for what I needed it for. The nursery has one plug that I needed the baby monitor plugged in to. So I needed something to cover that outlet while allowing me to still use it. The profile on this is semi deep, so if you're backing furniture up to it, be aware that your furniture will be sticking out from the wall a little bit. But it is not an issue with me. I also paired it with a separate purchase of an adhesive cord cover to keep the baby monitor cord from dangling. Easy enough for an adult to get in to, but in my opinion, impossible for a baby/toddler to get into. Highly recommend
5Worth the price
Just installed this today, it is exactly what I needed! I chose this particular model because my power strip plug goes into the socket at an angle and this cord opening is slightly to the right (see photos). It's still a little snug for this when plugged into the bottom outlet, but perfect when on the top. Baby has tried to break it open a few times already without success. It's pricey but the protection is worth it! I will update if any problems occur with continued use.
5and I almost removed it because I thought it was making the situation worse. However
Does it's job. Takes about 2 minutes to install (just remove existing plate with a screwdriver, then screw in this contraption). After the initial installation, our baby was very drawn to this box, and I almost removed it because I thought it was making the situation worse. However, after a couple of days she realized it was nothing but a boring box and has not revisited it since.Bulky, but doesn't look as terrible as expected. If your house is anything like ours, you likely have way more obtrusive babyproofing items around, not to mention random toys and small socks scattered around every area of your house. In the scheme of things, this looks pretty decent. The one downside is that it is a little wobbly and unsteady. I feel like if a toddler put all his/her weight on the box, it might break.
4PERFECT!!! And not so unattractive...
A bit of background...Apparently people who build houses in the Seattle area don't think air conditioners are necessary...I highly disagree! Rather than dying in the summer, we decided to get a window unit. Problem is...get a big one and you have to install a 220v outlet. Rather than giving my landlord a couple hundred gift by doing that, we went with the largest that runs on a standard outlet. New problem...while I can plug it into any outlet in the house, it would be smart to use an outlet wired for 20 amps. I want the AC in the living room, but closest 20amp outlet is in the kitchen. Problem solved...a giant 10/3 extension cable neatly tucked along wall behind furniture and plugged in out of sight beside the trash can. Sounds great, right?!? Nope...my overactive kids and forgetful husband keep bumping the trash can into the wire plugged in, which sticks out big time because its huge and probably larger than I need, but hey...bigger is always better, right? After cracking a few outlets from the trash can bumping the wire, which is too strong to bend...I decided I needed an outlet cover like those ugly gray things on the outside of my house. I discovered clear ones exist and almost bought one...until I found this nifty little creation. It looks like the typical child-proof covers, only larger to fit my ridiculously large extension cord. And, it was fairly cheap even though not Prime eligible and had to pay shipping. Arrived rather quickly and I immediately installed it. It comes with 2 plates so you can use it with standard outlets or the Decora plates (unlike a lot of other covers). Screw off your old cover, replace with the included one and thats it! It comes with new screws also!I absolutely love this thing...it isn't terribly ugly, it fits the giant extension cord and another charging block perfectly (see my picture posted). Easy enough for an adult to open, but would give a child problems (although I am not using it for this purpose). No more wire bumping and it looks neater beside my trash can. Perfect, perfect, perfect!
5Sturdy box, keeps my toddlers away from the outlets.
These installed quickly, you just have the remove the old outlet plate and install one of the two that come with the box. One is for a single, large opening and the other is for a standard two over-under electrical plug. The box is sturdy and so far has resisted both our inquisitive cat and our surprisingly strong toddlers. My toddlers both figured out how to remove the little plastic plugs from outlets so this thing is a godsend. The only issue with this is that it can easily tilt askew if you push on it. It doesn't tilt far but its enough to knock it out of level. That doesn't effect its performance in any way but it might be enough to drive a neat freak mad.
5Neat idea with lots of design and manufacturing problems
This item is a neat idea. For the most part, it does what it says on the tin: it bolts into an outlet plate, and it latches with a pair of buttons (top and bottom).Pros:* Easy install. Literally, five minutes.* Pretty child-proof: the buttons are a simple but neat mechanism that will probably foil most infants and toddlers.Cons:* This item is cheaply made... *really* cheaply made. The plastic is thin and feels fragile. The doors don't click together unless you intentionally line them up while you're closing them. If an infant actually wanted to play with it, or use it to stand up, etc., it's probably gonna crack. Yeah, it's that thin.* The doors don't entirely close - so if anything inside the box is glowing (like an LED on a Z-Wave outlet, or on an A/C adapter plug), you can see it through the gap between the doors. I can easily imagine infants being attracted to the strangely glowing white box, and playing with it until it breaks (which wouldn't take much... see above).* The interior of the box is quite small. The photo included here that shows a wall-wart A/C adapter plugged in... either it's an unusually small adapter, or the doors don't actually close when it's plugged in. The manufacturer really needs to make a jumbo-sized version that will accommodate bigger plugs.* The housing is held against the wall by the installable plate - and the plate bolts into the electrical box in the wall. Unfortunately, this means that if the electrical box isn't totally flush with the wall, it will create a gap between the plate and the wall - and the box won't be held tightly to the wall; it will dangle loosely from the plate. I managed to shim the back of the door with a couple of strips of squishy weather insulation, which worked fine. The manufacturer really should include a couple of strips with this product to solve this problem.Overall - while a good idea, these items are so cheaply made and flawed that I can't recommend them.
1Keep little hands safe
I love this outlet cover! My 8 month old can't keep his little crawling hands off anything. This solved some serious concerns. I love that you have to push the buttons on both the top and bottom at the same time to open. We ran cable covers out the bottom hole so our little one can't pull on the cords at all. Bot is a little bulky, but that's to be expected as it needs to provide room for the cord's depth when plugged in. We will be buying more of these soon.
5Love this cover!
My 8month old and 2 year old love to pull the plugs out. I reviewed some other items and decided to go with this one because of how big it is inside when closed. I was shocked at how easy this was to install it took two minutes. You just need a screwdriver. It comes with two face plates for the outlets. My 8 month old can pull on the cord without it coming loose at all and now she just ignores it completely
5Works well for standard plugs.
This outlet cover unfortunately doesn't allow the sideways rectanglugar plugs to fit without crushing the cable. Luckily I can buy a converter for the plug. It works well for standard and square shaped plugs.
