Customer Reviews

Not as sturdy/strong as I'd hoped. Doesn't take treated lumber well.Received promptly, quicker than anticipated given Amazon's seller said it was backordered. When arrived, poor packaging. Retail box with tabbed ends, no tape, no strapping, etc. But arrived safely despite less than average packing.Tried a 2x4 in my garage -- no problem. Took it to camp where I burn and store my firewood. Had stopped at Lowe's for 4 pressure treated 2x4x8's. When we tried to slide the pressure treated 2x4's into the slots on the bracket -- no go! I had to shave off almost 1/4" to slide the lumber into the bracket. Like I said, dry 2x4's worked easily. But who wants to store firewood outside in the winter on lumber that's not pressure treated? So I was disappointed with that.Once assembled, it works quite well. Easily holds a solid face cord of firewood without any problem, and keeps it neat and tidy. I would recommend it for pine 2x4's indoors like a garage. But not for pressure treated 2x4's outside, given the difficulty fitting the ends into the bracket. 2Works fine, but a word to the wise...Nice brackets for the $$$. A word of caution however, if you use treated lumber, the treated lumber expands in the treatment process and does not fit the openings! You will need to notch/narrow the end of the treated pieces you use...took me about 5 minutes with a good saw. I'm assuming regular lumber works fine, but didn't try it to size. Otherwise, I'm a happy buyer and would recommend, it is a nice rack for my firewood. 4This resulted in a pretty sturdy rackThe material quality of these brackets is respectable. They are made of a tough, heavy gauge plastic that is probably suitable for indoor use. Outdoors and freezing temperatures I cannot comment but I have seen plastic products similar to this become brittle and crack in freezing temps. The thing I will point out the most about this item is that if you assemble it as shown...it will practically fall over if you so much as yell at it. The 2x4 boards fit loosely in the slots and this thing will lean, twist and rock every time you stack on it. To make it functional, I had to cut 4 additional braces and nail them onto the rack. I put cross braces on top of the uprights on both top ends. I also assembled it with the rials out past the brackets on the outside and use 2 additional cut pieces of 2x4 to box the ends of the rails. This resulted in a pretty sturdy rack.I cannot see using this thing without reinforcing it because it was very shaky. You will need more wood and hardware than shown to build a sturdy rack with these brackets. I believe the pictured assembly is to imply that no tools are needed to build it other than perhaps a saw. I used 4 full length (8 foot) pieces of 2x4 lumber to build it with 64" rails and 48" uprights. The cut off from the rails was enough to make all 4 needed braces. If you wanted to build this a full 8 feet long you will need additional lumber as well as nails or wood screws and power driver to reinforce it.In my opinion it is not very functional if built as pictured in listing, but if your handy and have tools, its not that hard to make it work and still not a bad value. 2I purchased this rack for a quick solution to store ...I purchased this rack for a quick solution to store fire wood close to the house. The rack can be assembled using lumber of my choice. The resulting rack can be assembled on any flat stable surface. It is a quick cheap way to obtain a temporary storage solution for firewood. 5Do Not Buy.Absolute junk. Shatter from the torque of a 4' 2x4 upright, without any wood stacked. Waited too long to stack wood and therefore outside any return policy. My fault for believing Chinese plastic can replace American steel. Par for the corse from Shelter Logic Do not buy. 1Firewood RacksThese make stacking firewood fvery easy and they are sturdier than I expected. I used to use pallets to stack my firewood and had to find a place to store them. This is so much easier and they are highly recommended. 5Very niceAs others noted getting PT lumber in is challenging but possible. some shaving and a mallet. Seems to work great. Very pleased for the price. I had Home depot cut 2 -10' in half and 1- 16' and I think that will work. Have not yet fully filled it though. No instructions as to how big you can reliably make it so this was a guess. 5Best Wood Racks! These little plastic guys are some of the best I've used. Previously I bought these at Northern Tool in-store but they quit carrying them so I tried some metal ones (also available on amazon) and the metal ones are awful, surprisingly. They are the bracket areas where the 2x4s go are much bigger then a 2x4 and therefore make it very unstable and needs to be shimmed and have extra screws in it, etc. These Shelter logic brackets are the best of 4 different types I've used and are all I buy. My oldest set is al least 5 years old and still holding strong season after season. I also put deck screws in them through the bracket into the 2x4 and the plastic holds up, no cracks, splitting etc.2x4s fit nice and snug so they have very little play or wobble and even more so when they have wood stacked in the rack. After cold and heat (I store and season wood with these) seasoning in the summer sun and storing in the winter cold still going strong. I'm ordering 2 more sets right now, currently I have 7 sets (kits) in use.I see a few people mentioning issues with treated 2x4s. I always use treated (last longer in elements and fends of carpenter ants and termites better). Depending on how wet your treated lumber is is should still work. As the treated lumber dries it will shrink. Personally I shave a little of the thickness off with a wood plane, just enough to get it started into the bracket, I only put about 6 inches into the bracket. Once the 2x4 starte to dry if you shave too much off it will fit loose.I also put a short piece of 2x4 at the top of the uprights on each side for extra stability. When I sue these for seasoning wood I also add a 8' 2x2 across the top of the short boards I put on the uprights, it adds even more stability for unseasoned wood that is much heavier as it tends to push the sides outward. I put 2 of the 2x2 across the top and put some 22"x8' galvanized tin across the top and gives me something to screw it to so I now have a little roof to keep direct soaking rain off seasoning wood. 4Great Firewood Rack for the priceThis firewood bracket kit is a good buy for the price. Why 4 stars instead of 5? Remember that what you are buying are the brackets and YOU will have to supply the 2x4s to create the base and sides which fit into these brackets (I was aware of this prior to purchase). Once the 2x4s and brackets are assembled (it only takes a couple minutes after you cut the wood to length) the rack is fairly wobbly until you actually fill it with cut firewood(the reason for 4 stars instead of 5). The great thing about this bracket kit is you can make the firewood rack as wide and tall as suits your needs. I purchased three 2"x4"x8ft pieces of lumber and cut them in half to create a 4'x4' lumbar rack (two pieces on each side and two on the bottom). I would definitely purchase this bracket kit again. 4Handy, but pricey.Love 'em, and have a bunch, but always needing more and they keep getting more and more pricey. If you use firewood for heat, with a modern stove, it's best to use 2 year wood, which means you need to keep a lot of wood seasoning. I currently have about 16 cords of wood in various stages of readiness, and I can't afford to use these for that much wood, so I improvise, and won't be buying more.As mentioned by others, there is wide diversity in the size of pressure treated 2x4's, so some need to be trimmed a bit to fit. This particular model of brackets is best suited to very level areas. The are plastic and no fasteners are used. They are also especially good if you want a rack on a poured concrete floor or in your home. For areas where it's not very level, and shims have to be used to level the racks, I prefer the metal ones with screw holes for a strong fit. 5
