    The semi coarse stone is better (only one imperfection in the level of the steel ... I got mine and was impressed with the heft... until I sharpened some scrapers and chisels. I thought I had contaminated My stones so I rinsed them.... And rinsed them....My coarse stone has two imperfections that makes the coarse stone worthless for truing an edge. The semi coarse stone is better (only one imperfection in the level of the steel they are mounted on) and the fine stone is perfect.... but for the money, I should have bought better stones. 2These diamond stones are awesome, they are all flat and even which is ... These diamond stones are awesome, they are all flat and even which is awesome.So far they definitely work as they suggest, bought these instead of water stones because they will last longer. 5Stones are just okay These stones are just okay. I sharpen my plane blades and chisels by hand with no jigs. After only a few months they take quite a bit longer to sharpen and have noticeable wear. They DO still give me a good a edge when I sharpen, but it just takes a while now. If you need to sharpen multiple times a day these aren't really the stones for you. It really just depends on your work.These are good stones to start out with for the price. If you want to sharpen a standard plane blade with a jig it won't fit. If you hand sharpen at an angle as I do they work just fine. I'd recommend these as a good starting point to get introduced to diamond stone sharpening, or if your budget doesn't allow for more. I would not recommend these if you want these for serious use. Save up for something that will last longer. 3No stone holder is provided. These are good diamond stones for the price. I would have given a 5 star if some type of stone holder would have been provided. In addition I would like to see this manufacturer provide a 1000 grit stone because it jumps from 600 grit to 1200 grit. This is still a good buy. 4Sharpens Well These diamond stones will sharpen my chisels and blades to a fine edge. I just wish I had bought a 3 inch wide stone to sharpen my 2 inch wide plane blade. Otherwise, the stones are great. 5Great for knives Great for knives, chisels and other small edged tools. At 1200 grit you're getting a bit beyond razor sharp, but it makes cutting a breeze. 5the larger size would be better for 2 3/8 inch wide plane blades I got these because they are cheaper than the 8" by 3" size. the larger size would be better for 2 3/8 inch wide plane blades, but you can sharpen them with these 2 inch wide diamond stones.There is a difference of opinion as to how sharp your planes and chisels need to be. Paul Sellers does a demonstration to show that 200 grit is enough for most uses, and that 400 is more than enough, but the diamond stones that he uses are 300, 600, and 1200. so I am doing as he does, not as he says. A lot of on line sharpening demonstrations are done with 8,000 and even 20,000 grit, but Ron Hock in his book on sharpening says that they will not stay that sharp for more than one cut, so why bother. 5Makes quick work of chisels and planes Great size, thick base plate does not flex. Makes quick work of chisels and planes. 5I needed diamond stones to speed up changing the horrible factory profile I got these based on one review. I rarely have to sharpen a chisel since woodwork isn't really one of my hobbies but I wanted diamond stones that were level. These suit that need perfectly. The main reason I bought these though was that I have a couple of stainless steel knives that were just too hard to sharpen with my existing stones. I needed diamond stones to speed up changing the horrible factory profile. These allowed me to do that much more quickly than I imagined possible. The course grit handled that and will probably not get much use beyond tasks such as that. The medium and fine stones are very easy to use for sharpening and finishing up with stropping makes quick work of resharpening tasks. These are worth more than they cost. If I ever wear these out, I'll buy them again.On a side note I was facing into the sun while sharpening a knife and with each stroke across the stone I would see a fine dust of steel glimmer in the sunlight. It was something I'd never actually seen before. 5Great product, and great customer service! Fantastic customer service. When received my order, one of the plates was dinged on two corners. I asked if I could send it back and get a replacement, and they told me to keep it, and they would send me a completely new one. Very quick to respond, as well.As for the plates themselves, they seem to be totally worth the price. Nice and heavy. Thick enough that you can sink them into a piece of plywood. Very happy with my purchase. 5
