Customer Reviews

Horrible and Cheap I'm not a super strong guy, and just average twisting pressure was enough to break an Allen head bit right off. What's worse, is it broke loose with such surprise that I dragged the jagged broken end across my firearms finish. What a horrible, disappointing waste of money. I thought that this company was supposed to be quality. Man was I wrong. Zero stars- worthless when it'll damage your firearm more than it'll help to repair it. 1HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! UNREACHABLE Before you buy any Wheeler item either do one of two things 1) believe you will NEVER EVER need their customer service and GO Ahead and purchase it or 2) Take the challenge and attempt to get ahold of this company customer service as you would if you need customer service then you will understand--there is a problem. Other complaints about this are out there.Own several Wheeler(parent is Battenfeld Tech.) manufactured items but to contact their Customer Service IS IMPOSSIBLE!!! and they refuse any reply to email contact as well.I know it possible to believe it is the customer here creating this issue but honestly try to get ahold of them...best wishes!I have taken a position that given the cheap price of the tool to just go ahead and buy the offered replacement part and move on, or toss the whole tool down-the-road and buy another one before Wheeler would address any possible WARRANTY question would EVER be ADDRESSED and they seem so nice on their vids. Color me confused. Wait is that racist? 1Poor quality metal leads to broken bits. If you are going to buy this set, only use the drivers to unscrew already loosened screws. The first time out, one of the screwdriver heads and the drive converter broke. 1So-so You get what you pay for and in my instance, I wanted these to fit the screws on the S&W model 66 and 686 revolvers, none did. :( The blade thickness is sloppy to provide good surface engagement on the slotted walls. Of the assortment, only three slotted bits fit the other firearms. The Torx bits are similar, looser tolerances on the Torx head screws I have. The hex bits seem to be ok. None IMO are ideal fit. I should have known but took the gamble on these in the hope a few would fit properly out of the box to make it worthwhile. Haha.Disappointed though at $29 this set has enough bits to modify/grind down to fit as necessary. I could have gone to a home improvement store for bits if that was the case. At least some of those come from Taiwan and at the high end tool store Germany and USA. Overall appearance is that of typical made in PRC and concludes to me as a so-so tool. Machine cut, then a light media tumble. The specs list S2 at an RC of 56-58, took one of the scribes at an RC of 60 and it scratched it so these bits are below that. How durable remains an unknown. The word "professional" is misleading. Professional implies a level of tool that speaks quality and preciseness. They may meet spec somewhere but in the wild they don't match up to Smith Wesson fasteners. Will figure out whether to return or keep/modify this Wheeler set. 3You'll need the 21-pc. add on for metric sizes I would have given this 5-stars for the quality of the tools, but I can't understand why they didn't include the 21 piece add on set to the kit. They even molded a place in the case that the add-on set fits in. Why not just include it in the set and charge a little more, especially since it completes the 89 piece set with metric sizes. It would just be a much greater convenience for the buyer. 4Giving terrible cases a bad name After opening the amazon packaging, you will immediately have doubts about the quality of the product. Not only if the box cheap plastic (think of the package flimsy headphones come in), but it doesn't even hold the bits in place. If you turned it on its side, everything would fall out. Nothing is held firmly in place. The handles on the drivers were damaged. Not in a way that ruins function, but aesthetically. I don't care too much about that because it is a tool, but still. So much neglect on this product in everything that immediately meets the eye. I've only used a small amount of the bits so far, they seem to work well. But it might be worth spending a little more and getting something else. I bought the hammer and punch set these guys sell and it was nothing like this. That was a quality set for a nice price. 3Softer than butter. Probably should have heeded to the reviews, but I took a chance. I bought these to work on the incredibly soft steel butter screws on the Uberti rifles, which anyone who owns a Uberti firearm knows to be some of the softest steel out there and the screw heads will wallow out for anything except perfect fit. I used the proper sized wheeler bit in this kit to attempt to remove the barrel band from my rifle, and the screw bit bent! It slipped out while bending and of course marred up the screw on my rifle. Sending this kit back ASAP and ordered the Brownell's magna-tip set. 1Very disappointed with the quality of this screw driver set Very disappointed with the quality of this screw driver set. I purchased it because I cant to make sure to use the appropriate screwdriver when I work on my rifles. The product looks like it is well made, but so far I've used it just a handful of times and 4 of the bits have broken with the slightest bit of pressure used to remove screws. The metal used appears to be very brittle and the tips snap right off if the screw is tight. I tried to match the best bit to the screw head size, but it really did not make a difference. I should have spent the money on a nice quality Craftsman screwdriver set, at least if the tip snap on one of those drivers, I can simply return it and get a new one. I would not recommend this set to anyone! 1Soft Pot Metal Bits Break Easily I really liked this set but never really used it much until a couple of month ago. My experience after using it for really small parts and not really applying much pressure is that the bits are made of poor cheap metal. I have now broken 3 of the bits and they are the most used sizes. As i said it doesn't take much pressure to snap these and just hope when they do break that the broken pieces don't embed in your screw head. I contacted Wheeler about this and evidently they don't care as I never received a response. 1Bad Bits The variety of bits in this set is excellent. However, within the first two weeks, I broke two flat head bits while removing different screws from a Winchester Model '92. Although tight, I was able to remove the screws with extra hand effort. I did not use a wrench or other tool for extra torque. I did not even stand up to lean on the screwdriver. I never had a screwdriver or bit prove to be weaker than the screw it was made to remove by breaking with normal use.A much smaller issue: The handles have small round magnets in them that hold the bits in place, but they are not glued well. After a couple of uses, the bits began falling out of the handle when held bit end down. Eventually, I realized the magnet had come out of the handle and was on the end of one of the bits I had used. Although quality is disappointing, I can glue the magnet into the handle. Finally, I wasn't able to find contact information on Amazon to inquire about getting replacement bits. What I found were messages saying I can't return an item after 30 days. I was able to find contact information on Wheeler Engineering's web site and will be pursuing replacement parts there. As I'm a sometime, amateur gunsmith, I will continue to use the bit set, and find other ways to deal with stubborn screws. 2
