Customer Reviews

Accurate, dependable and of vital importance for firearm performance. If this is your first use of a torque wrench assembling or reassembling a firearm or firearm accessory, even, if you have, as I did for years, guess at it and think you were about right, think again. Using this quality torque wrench is educate you that your touchy-fee-lee system is not quite as accurate as you thought it was. In yesteryear, touchy-fee-lee was adequate. With the precision firearms and accessories of today, it is just not acceptable. For maximum performance out of your firearm, everything needs dead on the money and accurately torquing the screws and nuts is very important. Try the product, you just may join me in being enlightened about the benefits of tightening firearm screws to the proper torque with a quality and accurate torque wrench. Dime-store products simply will not do, when accuracy is of vital importance for enhancing maximum performance.5Needs improvements...The wrench seems okay and did the job of tightening but its not built for loosening because you cant get any leverage on a screwdriver like you can a rachet. Also the bits...how do i say this politely? Well here goes...They suck. I twisted the T25 bit in three seconds. Went to the truck and grabbed my dewalt bits and it was easy peasey. Not sure what quality costs when it comes to this type of tool kit but i would say for $50.00 i was expecting better results on my first project. Would i recommend this tool? Yes if you only had $50.00 to spend then it does the job. Would i use this tool everyday? No i would opt for a rachet type with quality Dewalt bits.3It works. Good stuff!Read all the 4-5 star reviews. I agree with them. I bought this for one purpose and one purpose only, to mount my scope on my Saint AR-15 using Larue QD LT104 scope rings. You don't want to screw this up, because that mount costs about half as much as a lot of really good scopes. After laser bore sighting and leveling everything I used the Wheeler to torque the rings according to the Larue specifications. Piece of cake. If you are going to mount your scope yourself, do it right with the proper tools like the Wheeler and a good laser bore sighter, rifle rest or vise, and German level (they are sold on Amazon), or take it to your local gunsmith. Admitted, it comes with a limited set of bits which will probably work on 80-90% of the applications, but it accepts all the others, which you can also buy on Amazon. Yep, made in China. So what. It's good stuff and it works. Highly recommended.5Almost perfect... Very handy tool and close to perfect. It came with a case, calibration certificate and some suggested torque settings for various screw sizes, and pretty much every common bit you will need for scope mounting. I found the suggested torque settings to be a bit on the high side, especially for aluminum rings. I would drop them by 15% -20% for aluminum threads. The click is very positive... basically the bit head gives out completely when it reaches the desired torque. Very nice and very consistent. The fat grip is ergonomic and gives you plenty of leverage. The only reason it is not a 5-star rating is the design of the adjustment dial. I wear nitrile gloves when working on guns, and the dial doesn't give you much to hold onto. If you have a little gun oil on those gloves [or hands] and you have to go out to 50+ in/lbs, you have some work cut out for you. They really need to add a grippy rim to the top of the dial for this product to reach perfection.Nonetheless, I am happy with the purchase, and glad to leave the guess work behind. 4Good quality, works great. Analog means you get the click and break free when tension is reached.I chose the analog version over the digital version because the digital version does not click and turn free when you reach the desired torque. On the digital, you have to read the numbers and stop turning when you get to the desired setting. That seemed overly complicated to me, and I like the satisfying click when you achieve the targeted torque with this one.The one down side to the analog version is that you have to pull down and turn the bottom ring to set the tension, and it takes many turns to get to the high settings. Not too big of a deal, but it is recommended to dial it back to zero and release the tension before storing it after use. So I am assuming that a big advantage of the digital version is that you do not have to make this adjustment before and after use. Still, I am glad I chose the analog over the digital.4A Word of CautionWhat a great product and a bargain to boot. This nifty torque screwdriver is priced lower than some other similar products, but I don't see how they could be any better. This is easy to set up and takes the guesswork out of getting just the right torque on screws, especially for gunsmithing work. Word of caution though. I've seen several YouTube videos on this product that demonstrates that you tighten a screw until you hear a click, back off in the opposite direction and torque it twice more. The Fat Wrench instructions clearly state that this is not a ratcheting tool and to only use clockwise turns. So you hear the first click, continue to turn clockwise until you hear two more clicks for proper torquing of screws. Also, make sure to untension it before storing it away.5Mounted my Leupold to my Ruger Target 14-Mini like butterThe Wheeler Torque Wrench arrived today, and I used it to mount my Leupold VX-2 to my Ruger Mini-14 Target, with RM Ruger #1 & 77/22 1-in Medium Ext Rings. I read quite a few reviews, and was a little concerned about how it would perform, but it worked perfectly. I mention the exact rings, because one of the 'star' bits supplied fit perfect for the top 4 ring mount screws. I was able to dial it to 28 in-lbs for these particular scope rings, as well as 45 in-lbs for the screws that mount it to the rifle. Super easy to use, clear instructions, calibration info, and it comes with a hard case with slots for all the bits. Worst case scenario, is you will need to hit up Harbor Freight, Autozone, Sears, etc to pick up a small bit set. It mounted my rifle perfectly, and I'm more confident knowing that the correct amount of tq has been applied to each screw. I would definitely recommend.5Good, Accurate toolI don't often say I "love" a Chinese made tool due to quality issues most have. This is a torque driver rather than a wrench and comes with an assortment of bits; most of which are not the best match for the Mosin (Russian), SKS (Chinese), and AK-47 (Russian) but I do have a large set of gunsmithing type bits that interchange just fine. I don't blame Wheeler for this but rather loose manufacturing tolerances and practices during the war. You'll find them in the Brownell's catalog. Came with a molded plastic case that holds everything in place firmly. What surprised me was a test certification slip included in the box. I've added pix of the manual to help explain things. My unit gets somewhat harder to turn as setting increases so I keep anything slippery away from it. I've found a pair of thin nitrile gloves helps me get a good grip with my fat hands and fingers. Compared to a calibrated inch-pound torque wrench, the device was well within +/- 1% of the actual reading. Mark it down, I'm bragging on a Chinese made tool.5Poor indicator hinders usefulnessI was skeptical of buying a precision tool made in China, but I decided to chance it given the positive reviews. On the plus side, I was pleasantly surprised to find a calibration sheet inside showing the measured and actual torque at three data points spaced through the torque range of this tool. That gave me a bit more confidence that it had been calibrated correctly and would read accurately.Unfortunately, while the scale ranges from 10 to 65 in-lbs with very fine lines for gradations, the indicator itself is very wide, spanning approximately 5 in-lbs. For example, if the bottom of the indicator was in line with the "10" line, the top would be at the 15 line. So what is the torque at this setting? 10, 12.5, or 15 in-lbs? Who knows. I wish I did.3Fine product & good bit set.You can spend $13 more for the digital version (see above)I wanted to have a torque screw driver for certain applications, and picked this for $40 bucks. I'm familiar with Wheeler Engineering & like their stuff. This appears to be a very well made product with high quality bits as you'd expect from Wheeler. My only problem with this set is the small gauge that makes dialing in your torque settle precisely kinda difficult.Small scale and large/thick line make it hard to be precise on a setting. I'm sure it is just fine for my use & application, but if'n I had it to do over, I might pony up the add $16 bucks for the digital version. Trade off with digital is fussing with batteries tho. Keep that in mind.4First unit bad. Second unit good so far.I ordered this torque driver to torque down some connectors meant to join copper and aluminum wiring. Depending on the wire gauge I needed a driver that could do 10 or 15 inch pounds, the description of this item suggested it should work just fine. It arrived just a few hours ago and I'm already in the process of packaging it up to return it. At the 10-inch pound setting, it just clicks can't drive a screw at all. At the 15 inch pound setting, I literally am not strong enough to turn it hard enough to make the torque mechanism engage, it just keeps on driving. The reason I wonder if mine is fake, is even though the packaging was still sealed up, there was NO instruction manual of any kind inside the package; but I see photos in other reviews of an actual manual... I submitted an exchange request with Amazon so we'll see if the 2nd one is any better...ORIGINAL RATING: 1 Star.UPDATE: 10/12/2018 - I received my replacement from Amazon very quickly after submitting my return. I've used the replacement for 4 different tasks so far and it has performed as I would have expected. My second unit included a manual as well as a calibration certificate, both of which were NOT present in my first unit's packaging. I've updated the review to 4 stars to reflect my overall satisfaction.4
