Customer Reviews

Totally worth the price!I do product and macro photography and this has been a game changer for me. I just bought another one and will buy more as time goes on. I use them to hold small pieces of white foam core to work as reflectors and black foam core as flags. I use an extra light stand to mount them on and the possibilities are endless. The arm holds more that I thought, but nothing very heavy. The big clamp is well designed with multiple mounting points for attaching on a variety of stands and surfaces. I also like the way the small clamp can rotate so I can fine tune the reflector without moving the whole arm. I balked at the price and held off buying, but they have proven to be worth the price!5The Plamp Is Like Having An AssistantI do floral and nature photography. I work alone, so this is like having an assistant. I work outside and in a studio. I often clamp it on fences, tables, chairs, light stands and my tripod to hold flowers steady or my reflectors/diffusers. That side of the Plamp is strong enough to hold it solidly in place. I purchased the stake with it, but haven't used that yet. The tip of the clamp that holds the subject is a soft rubber so I can easily screw it down just enough to hold the most delicate of subjects like flower stems so they don't get pinched. There is a notch in the very corner that holds reflectors/diffusers and heartier subjects like branches and stems. I just screw down that end as tight as I need it to be.My only problem was the clamp side that holds my subjects has fallen off on occasion when I've tried to rotate it into position. After a few times of it falling off, I've learned to manipulate it so that doesn't happen. I think this is meant to be removed if you want to add extensions and then you reattach it. The stem/arm part of the Plamp is very stiff, sturdy, easily manipulated and stays in place.Overall, I don't know how I lived without this. I know people who've made their own using foam coated wire, but this Plamp's design is great and serves its purpose very well. I'm sure I'll purchase another one in the future.5Excellent quality with one downsideThe Plamp II is excellently made -- very sturdy and easy to adjust the smaller clamp to accommodate flowers and other objects without injury to the plant or whatever. HOWEVER, the clamp that fits to the table or tripod -- the large one -- is nearly impossible to open if you have arthritis or any hand issues. I also feel it was overpriced. Some adjustment should be possible for that big clamp -- you should have the option to loosen it a bit. It may be comfy for the tender plants I'm shooting, but it is painful for the poor human involved. That would be me.3Questionable sales practicesBeware: I ordered this item on 1/8/2018 thinking I would received the latest model (with improved clip) as the manufacturer website shows in their video. Instead, for the same price, Wimberley sent me the old model. Not good for business I would say. I returned the item because I don't like to be taken for a ride.I do have other Wimberley products and they are first class, top quality. It's their sales practices that are questionable.1... Wimberley products I have purchased in the past are great. I love supporting a small company that is ...First off let me say that ALL of the Wimberley products I have purchased in the past are great. I love supporting a small company that is constantly innovating. This Plamp Stake is no exception. I m a big fan of the Wimberley Plamp for macro photography, and this accessory makes it even better. Just shove it into the ground and you ve instantly got a pole to attach your plamp to. It s particularly useful when I m using the Plamp to hold my subject because I can reposition my tripod without disturbing the subject. I like that fact that I can always remove the Plamp from the stake and attach it to my tripod for holding diffusers and reflectors. I was a little dubious about the manufacturer s claim that it would penetrate even the toughest ground, but I was pleasantly surprised. I like to drive the screwdriver into the ground with the stake attached (like a short handled shovel). So far it s handled every ground type I ve encountered. It s a pretty simple concept, but very effective and well thought-out (the blade stows away inside the plastic sheath, and you can even combine them in series to make a taller pole. Wimberley makes quality products and you couldn't go wrong with anything that they make. I can't wait to see what they come up with next!5Seems expensive, but by far the best such product I've triedI had looked at this product previously and didn't buy it because of the price. I tried several other articulated arms with clamps, with terrible results - table clamps unstable or not large enough to be useful, top clamp too rough for delicate subjects, flexible arm wasn't, or wasn't stable; a whole litany of problems. I wasted more on them in total than if I'd just bought this up front. Another photographer who shoots a lot of flowers recommended this product, so I bought one. I immediately used it half a dozen times doing the award photography for an orchid show, as well as in the greenhouse and it was immensely helpful in both situations. It still seems expensive, but I just added another one to my cart so I can keep one in the travel camera bag and one in the greenhouse. Plus it will be useful to have two for some difficult subjects.5Love it!I've already used this more than I thought I would. It works great outside, I've also used it curled on a table to hold flowers for a still life! It's really sturdy but totally flexible. I felt kind of weird spending the $$ on a plastic clamp, but I'm SO glad I've got it. One issue: when it starts to rain and you want to grab your gear and run inside, it's easy to grab ther plamp and leave the stake in the ground. I'm going to make a tether for it out of plastic lanyard cord so I can't leave it behind (again!)5Best plant clamp (plamp) on the marketFrom my perspective, this clamp is the best 3rd hand on the market. The small clamp has adjustable tension, so you can use it to hold flower stems steady without crushing or bruising the stem. The large clamp end can be attached to a tripod leg, or you can stick an old screwdriver in the soil or a rotting log, and then secure the clamp to its handle. This thing really works. I like it so much that I have purchased a 2nd one, so now one can secure the plant while the second one can hold a diffuser in place. It is wonderful when a product not only meets, but exceeds, expectations.5I'm delighted with the outcome possible with this product: my best results ever!I bought this product a few weeks ago, and finally managed to get to a local botanical garden this past week. The Plamp II worked perfectly, clamped to my tripod. I used a remote, had the mirror locked up, and the anti-vibrating feature on my lens turned off. With that combination, absolutely nothing moved and I got what I consider to be the best macro image of a flower from a cannonball tree that I've ever managed to make, despite trying several times in years past. It also worked flawlessly on a delicate orchid plant. I couldn't be more delighted.I also bought the Plamp stake, but didn't need to use it. I see no reason why results won't be equally satisfying when I choose to use the stake instead of my tripod leg.The Plamp seems perfectly strong, while maintaining flexibility, to allow me to control the shot. What else can one want in a device like this? I'd buy this again in a heartbeat if I ever lost this one.By the way, no one has offered me anything to give my opinion and relate my experience with this product.5Amazing helping hand!I own the first edition of this product and really loved the concept of having that extra hand to assist me during my macro shoots. I recently started using more light, bounce cards and reflectors during my projects. So, I searched for the Wimberly plamp and saw there was a new model. I really love the improvements and options this product gives me, especially the new clamp improvement. I would highly recommend this product to anyone needing that additional helping hand! The flower in my sample photo is being held by my new plamp! The second plamp is holding a reflector!5
