Junk - AVOID!1) Pencil has to be inserted 4-5 inches before the (unbalanced) cutter starts2) Sharpener does not stop when LED lights as advertised3) Led does not illuminate until the pencil is 1/3 gone4) The pencil; does not get centered and wobbles therefore not sharpened correctly.5) Sending back for refund6) AVOID 1How do I contact X ActoThis is my THIRD pencil sharpener, of the exact same model. My parents bought one as a gift when I went back in the classroom in 2016, bought a used off Amazon in 2017, and bought again new in box from Amazon in February of 2018. All three are no longer working. I cannot figure out what is happening, but having 3 sharpeners with almost $100 invested and none working is a bit extreme. I have smaller classes, so it cannot be an overuse issue. I have tried blowing out the wheels/blades and still cannot get it to work. Any advice? 2Actually works well....with one exceptionI can really put a sharpener through the paces...this one works well most of the time ...except with colored pencils which will sometimes break off in the machine when the lead gets slightly out of center, and then you have to open it up and try to unstick it....I love the variable holes, but that colored pencil thing is a hang up.....still, I have not found anything better...they need to have a small tool to get the lead out of the machine, and then it would be just about perfect....I tried a razor blade, but the slot inside is smaller than that.. I just have multiple pencils. Regular drawing or drafting pencils...no worries, just Prisma Colors and other wax like leads are an issue. 5it was great, but by the end of first quarter (9 ...Okay, so I got this over the summer & it no longer works. I bought it for my classroom & didn't start using it until mid-August. I don't sharpen a lot of pencils in the classroom because I know that sharpeners don't last long. I usually use the sharpener in the work room. This sharpener has never been used for more than 5-10 pencils at a time, and rarely used for new, unsharpened pencils. At first, it was great, but by the end of first quarter (9 weeks later) it wasn't working well. It would freeze up after a couple of pencils that only needed "touching up" because they had dull tips. Now I can't even sharpen up a dull pencil. It starts & then it freezes up, then I can put it in again after a second or two & get a little more out of it. So, it takes longer to sharpen a pencil than it does to go to my cabinet & get a new one. A co-worker had the same sharpener & the same thing happened. It thought hers broke because she let the kids use it all the time & was sharpening class sets of new pencils. I should have known better before I bought it. 1X-ACTO Teacher Pro is the winner!I'm a teache. This year I'm required to have a supply of sharpened pencils available for students all the time (Students trade an un-sharpened pencil for a sharp one). So, I will be doing a lot of sharpening as will my fellow teachers. I decided to buy 3 electric sharpeners to compare (and to share with other teachers at school). I bought this X-Acto Teacher Pro Electric for $29.99, the Tatji Classroom Heavy Duty for $35.99 and the Avalon Titanium Blade Fully Automatic Heavy Duty for $49.99. Using only wooden #2 pencils, I found that all three work nicely and quickly produce a sharp point. However, there are 5 ways in which this X-Acto Sharpener stands out as my FAVORITE and the BEST: It is super- quiet!, it is able to sharpen multiple thicknesses of pencils, it has a large-capacity compartment for shavings, it has a blue light that comes on when the pencil is sharp and it stops sharpening (so you don't over sharpen and waste pencil) (awesome!) and best of all, it's the lowest priced of the three! The second best sharpener, in my opinion, is the Avalon, but man! It's loud! It is cool the way it takes the pencil down, sharpens it, then pops it back up, but it costs much more and is loud. The Tatji is least impressive compared to these other two, but does work -- seems better for just at home use. The one thing I cannot judge yet is which will last longest. I guess I'll have to wait and see. I hope this has been helpful. :) 5It's quite disappointing because up until this pointI read the many reviews with a focus on the negative ones curious to find out why they rated so low and a few warned of this very problem: Unfortunately after just a couple months of classroom use, it stopped sharpening a new (flathead) pencil in one insertion. Which means the light comes on indicating the pencil is fully sharpened before it actually is. It's quite disappointing because it's been amazing up until this point. I am hoping after I conduct some research and contact the company, there's something that I, or they can do to remedy this. If not I will seek a replacement and update this post. Until then, stay away! Ok: update: I cleaned the swirled blades thoroughly and the machine works fine now so to all those who have had issues: try cleaning the blades! 4Student Proof - 4 month updateUsually my students can jam, partially or fully destroy a pencil sharpener within a day to a week, and though I have a manual pencil sharpener in my classroom, which they have not yet destroyed, watching them try to coordinate their limbs to actually sharpen a pencil is just sad. This pencil sharpener has worked amazingly well, not even a single broken point to mess up the works. It is more expensive, but if it lasts a few years it will be cheaper and less hassle in the long run than replacing a less expensive sharpener every few months. - 4 months along and the only issue was when one of my students tried to sharpen a stub of a pencil and it got stuck. A paperclip later all was good. I am still amazed that there has not been a single broken pencil point jam. If you want to give a teacher a present this is one that will keep giving. 5A needle sharp-don t poke yourself-point.Not all pencils are alike. There are the yellow #2, Crayola colored pencils, expensive art and scrap book book pencils, and tree logs with a chunk of charcoal in the middle. THIS SHARPENER HANDLES THEM ALL. The multi-diameter selector holds the pencil straight and true-solid cut.My Humble Input:A needle sharp-don t poke yourself-point...John Wick would want one.The auto-shut off prevents kids from taking a brand new #2 and grinding it down to a nub...just because.You can tell by the sound of the motor it has a very hefty grinder/sharpener. I don t expect it to quit tomorrow.Has a fairly long; well secured chord...didn t measure it.Haven t had any broken leads yet after a pack of #2s and two boxes of Crayola pencils.Stuck a couple of round fat carpenters pencils in because I can-works fine. Haven t tried the flat ones yet....something else to test.Has a large shavings bucket. Why do I like it?- It sharpens quickly. It is really fast! I can have 20 students sharpen all of their pencils before school in 10 minutes. They are required to sharpen at least 2 pencils every morning, but most of them have four!-It has a light that shines when the pencil is sharpened, so my students don't keep running the sharpener and hurt the motor.- In addition to the light, it automatically shuts off! This is a great feature considering my students have broken several sharpeners that I bought. It's such a great feature! No more buying multiple pencil sharpeners a year!- It sharpens to a fine, sharp point. The pencil point is perfect!!- It is so much quieter than any other sharpener I have used! It is NOT by any means really quiet. It is an electric sharpener with a motor. It is going to be loud. This is the quietest motor of any electric pencil sharpener that I have owned.- It can hold A LOT of shavings before it has to be emptied! This cuts down on the number of times the students have to empty it, and the number of shavings I have on my floor!I am very pleased with the performance and durability of this sharpener. I have used this for three months so far. I will update this review at the end of the school year. 5Saves my day!This save me a lot of the same question every now and then by my daughter "mom, do you ha e a sharpener?" This question always pop up each time she would draw and make her book, meaning as soon as she gets home from school. As parents, we provide them what they need for school, of course one of them is the sharpener. I may have bought tons of sharpeners overtime including battery operated ones. They easily fit in my daughter's backpack, the downfall, when she gets back home she wouldn't remember where she left her sharpener. Not only that, the battery operated sharpeners are not built to last. It will only serve the writing and book enthusiasts a handful of times and break. It may be too early to rate it 5 stars, but so far, for a week now, I never heard the question if I have a sharpener, nor dealt with a lost sharpener. Also, with the price, I guess this is still cheaper rather than buying sharpeners all the time! This is big enough and heavy enough to put in a backpack =). One more thing, may not be important to other buyers, but there is a blue light that lit up when in use. My daughter loves it since she's a big fan of color blue. 5
