Customer Reviews

Yes, it's worthy of the hype! Yes, perfect rice is possible, even likely. My wife gave me a very hard time about spending this much on an appliance that "should cost $40 at most". Her words. So, against her wishes, I splurged and got my dream rice cooker. The first night we got it I cooked Jasmine Rice. More grumbling about how long it took to cook...an hour for Jasmine Rice!?$&@? Not my best sales pitch. But then I asked her to describe her Rice experience with the cheaper cooker. Uneven cooking, wet spots, etc... Fast forward to an hour later...PERFECT RICE! What? PERFECT RICE! "Worth the wait," she says. The next we went to the store. "What other kinds of should we try?" she asks. What about that GABA Brown Rice? No problem, we waited two hours for that batch, but it was even better than the first! What about grits? (She is from Georgia) no problem; I even found a recipe for grits casserole in the rice cooker. What about parboiled rice? She has now ventured out on her own. I believe we now have five different kinds of rice in our cabinet. All have their own setting, and all come out perfect. No more do I hear discussion about cheaper rice cookers that don't perfectly steam the rice. This device delivers perfection and keeps Rice for days on the extended warm setting. I'm not kidding, five days! I can't say enough.Bottom line, spend the money. Get the larger model. Explore new rices. Smile! One of my best purchases.5Perfect rice, perfect oatmeal. Love it so far. Makes perfect rice! Also makes excellent steel-cut oatmeal on the porridge setting. You have to separate the extra water (I use an OXO ladle and dump it in a separate container), and stir the oatmeal in a separate bowl to protect the liner from damage. Then add back water to get the consistency you want. It makes a ton of delicious oatmeal just like my old ZCC did.Make sure you read the instructions carefully, too, especially if you aren't used to induction cooking. 5Chinese parents approved!Just a little background - my family is Chinese and we're obsessed with rice (my dad doesn't feel full unless there is rice at the meal). My dad had heard about this rice cooker at a mah-jong game and asked me to find it for him, so to the Amazons. I ordered this for them, and my parents have had the rice cooker for about a week now and they can NOT STOP RAVING ABOUT HOW GOOD THE RICE IS. My mom, who is a bit of a rice snob, used the same normal chinese rice (Kokoman brand) she always does, and she says that it tastes like it's high quality premium new rice. It's light, fluffy, sweet, with the perfect amount of starchiness. She and my dad have doubled their rice intake since getting this rice cooker, and my parents now want to buy one for everyone in the family.5Fantastic for brown rices and steel cut oatmeal.Fantastic appliance. I have mostly used it for two things. Brown rices (like Lundberg wild blend and black japonica, and wild rice), and also steel-cut oatmeal. For the brown rices, I found that precisely using the Zojirushi measuring cup, and brown rice water lines in the pot yielded excellent results. The GABA brown rice setting makes a particularly tasty result; possibly with a health benefit. The timer function on the cooker is super simple to use, and for the long GABA brown rice (~3h) cooking time, I just set it up in the morning, and enter the time I want the rice to have completed cooking. Results for cooking steel-cut oatmeal are also outstanding; significantly better than anything else I've tried, and very-very simple. In my opinion, if you like this or products like Bob's Red Mill whole grain cereals, the rice cooker purchase could be justified just for this. To produce 'just enough' cereal for two people, I use 3/4 Zojirushi measuring cup of cereal (I really like McCanns Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal), three of those measuring cups of water, and about 1/2 tsp kosher salt. Do this in the evening before bed, set the rice cooker to the 'porridge setting', and set the time for when you want it ready in the morning. Literally takes about 90sec to do in the evening. As mentioned above, the resulting oatmeal is fantastic, with a really excellent and pleasing texture. The water/cereal proportions I suggest make a rather thick product that I then add some milk to. You might want to experiment with proportions to get the result that pleases you. Finally; everything cleans up easy, fast, and with no fuss. With rice or porridge, absolutely no crust/burning/sticking as was the norm in my previous rice cooker. I'm very happy with the purchase of this product, and would do so again. It is a bit pricey, but as the old saying goes: 'you only regret buying good tool once'.5Cooked Basmati and GABA (Sprouted) Brown RiceI used it for the first time this weekend for hosting 12 people. I made the full 5 uncooked cups of basmati rice, and used the White Rice (normal) setting at the recommended water line. It took 53 minutes. The rice texture looked just like a restaurant's and presented beautifully for hosting. But I don't know if it tasted any better - basmati rice is fragrant and delicious as it is.Today I cooked 3 cups of the Planet Rice Sprouted Brown Rice and used the GABA Brown Rice setting. I was really nervous on this one because (1) my family is not crazy about brown rice's blandness and texture, and (2) GABA brown rice is SO expensive, so I didn't want to mess up. The GABA setting took 3.5 hours to cook. I started it after breakfast and it was ready by lunch. The rice cooked wonderfully, the texture was perfect, and my family loved that the rice did not taste anything like brown rice. One of the best parts was that there was zero messy water splatter to clean up.One of the confounding parts was that the Zojurushi measuring cup looks similarly sized to my normal rice cooker cup, but the cooked rice quantity appeared less than my normal rice cooker output. Maybe the Zojurushi cup design is deceiving? Tomorrow I will compare the quantity of rice held between the Zojurushi cup and the normal rice cooker cup to gauge the difference.5Makes great rice!So I wait a year or so and thoroughly use an item before submitting a review. This rice machine is definitely worth the cost. I was taught by my grandmother how to cook rice in the old fashioned rice cookers. (Grandmother is a Japanese American). This machine makes rice better than I could, not sure how, it must have to do with the sensors but definitely an upgrade from my old Panasonic rice cooker. Rice is perfect every time, light fluffy distinguishable grains. I do use a higher end koshihikari rice and also a gaba brown and both turn out wonderful. You still have to do the normal wash and rinse but I ve found that I don t have to let my uncooked rice rest prior to cooking. The electronic cooking menu and timer make life easy especially for gaba brown rice which takes 190 minutes to cook. Set it before I leave in the morning and return at night to cooked rice.5Even a $40 rice cooker is 10X better than cooking rice in a pot and for basmati ... My third Zojirushi cooker over the last 25 years and my first induction model. The first two got retired or given to other family members because they got beat up over time, not because they failed. Zojirushi is worth the extra money for two reasons; build quality, they hardly ever break, and the rice comes out extremely consistent each time. Whether that is worth the extra money or not is dependent on the buyer. Even a $40 rice cooker is 10X better than cooking rice in a pot and for basmati rice I can not say I detect any difference between this and a less expensive cooker. My family liked the GABA rice you can cook in here, which requires a longer, low temperature cycle. 5Very Poor QualityWe bought this rice cooker based on the belief that it's good rice cooker even though it's very pricy but after about 2 years of using, it turns out to be a very poor quality product. All the sudden it stopped working and just 2 years it is out of warranty and the repair cost is more than $200 and the repair shops said: no, don't repair it and just go ahead buy a new one. We never thought such expensive product can go wrong in such short time and the manufacturer is not willing to compensate anything. We are disappointed, disappointed, disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We will never buy this rice cooker again, never, never, and never. Bye bye Zojirushi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1PerfectNote - I am not a paid representative, though I may sound like one. I'm just a foodie that has spent a lot of time in Japan for business, and over time came to really appreciate rice. Sounds simple - rice is a staple in probably close to half the world (though not so much here in the US.) It is a staple for me ... I cook rice probably a couple times a week. I've had a Zojirushi for years - my go to rice cooker. When I heard about the new induction rice cookers, I wanted to give them a try. I went with Zojirushi because the brand has served me very well.I'm not disappointed, indeed, I can't say enough about this cooker. Have just finished my third batch (I just bought it.) Have made Sushi rice, Basmati, and tonight Jasmine. The difference between induction and non-induction is subtle, but distinct to my palette (though I'm not sure if I could articulate how.)Zojirushi is clearly into rice. By way of example, the "Jasmine" setting is new (my old cooker didn't have it.) Now traditionally, you thoroughly wash Jasmine rice, and then let if soak in the liquid for a while before cooking it. After a call with their Customer Support, they told me I didn't have to worry about that. "Jasmine" is programmed to cook Jasmine. Put the rice in, put the liquid in, and (as far as I can tell) it seemed to allow for the soaking time with slight warming prior to doing the full cook. All I know is that I got perfect, fragrant rice. Every kernel fully cooked, but distinct. Incredibly fluffy.Yes - it is a bit expensive - perhaps not worth it if you use a rice cooker once or twice a year. But this is one of the workhorses on my kitchen, that will be used weekly for years, and from what I can tell from the first few uses, I find it overwhelmingly worth the price.5Do not buy. Does not meet expectationsI ve wanted this brand for years. This particular model went on sale for less than half price so I grabbed one excitedly. I have to say that I am very disappointed. The quality of rice is worse than my $10 rice maker. I ve made rice using their other models that was amazing but this particular model does not meet expectations. Not what I expected from this brand which is probably why it was on super sale. I make rice daily and have been experimenting for over 20 years. I was raised making Persian rice in a cheap pan and befriended Korean, Thai, Pakistani, Japanese, Chinese and Bengali friends that have shared their family secrets. This high end rice maker fails in comparison every time.I experimented with it for a few months using very high quality varieties of rice. Adding more water, less water, butter, oil, washing, not washing. Do not buy this product it s complete garbage.1Perfect rice quickly, kept perfectly warm for over 24 hours!Delicious rice, fast! I love sushi and good sticky rice, and I'm picky about it being perfect. This rice cooker is so amazing!! It's fast (44 minutes for perfect sushi rice vs 55 in my last rice cooker) and the texture is perfect! I was tempted to buy an instapot, and after trying a friend's rice I'm glad I didn't. The texture wasn't right. This rice is perfect! My kids love rice, so the extended warming feature means that they can have warm rice for an after school snack or with their school lunch. I do add a bit of water to keep it hydrated after it's been warming overnight, but that's not even necessary. It's just that good!!! It's worth every penny!5Cooks perfect riceI thoroughly researched this rice maker. I did a lot of comparisons and this came up the best. We eat rice two to three times a week. We eat different types of rice depending on what my husband is cooking. So far the basmati rice comes out perfect compared to our old rice maker, which was an Aroma rice maker. I wanted to go high end since my husband loves rice and the old rice maker was on it's last legs. He loves how simple it is to use and how perfectly the rice comes out. We are both pleased with the rice maker and can't wait to try all the different rice along with their rice settings.5Plenty of features that are actually useful. I love all the features. The Jasmine setting definitely makes good jasmine rice. I can certainly tell the difference between the regular setting and jasmine setting. I also tried to make GABA brown rice. If I'm going to eat brown rice, might as well make it nutritious. The brown rice was made almost edible for me. In the end, I just don't like brown rice. The timer function is well appreciated. I just love getting home and a nice pot of rice is hot and ready! Of course, there are higher priced rice cookers, but seriously, though, I've been eating rice for almost 50 years, and mostly using cheap rice cookers. $200 for a rice cooker really is the most a rice cooker should cost. 5
